Job Description

Position Summary The Bivocational Pastor serves as the spiritual leader and shepherd of the congregation, providing biblical preaching, pastoral care, leadership, and vision while maintaining employment outside the church. The pastor will lead the church in fulfilling the Great Commission and the Great Commandment through evangelism, discipleship, worship, ministry, and missions, in accordance with the beliefs and practices of the Southern Baptist Convention and the church's constitution and bylaws.
Qualifications The successful candidate will:
Demonstrate a clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a personal call to pastoral ministry. Meet the biblical qualifications for pastors/elders found in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:6-9. Affirm the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. Be in agreement with the doctrine and mission of the church. Possess strong interpersonal and communication skills. Have experience in preaching, teaching, and pastoral leadership. Seminary education is preferred but not required. Be willing and able to balance the responsibilities of bivocational ministry and outside employment. Primary Responsibilities Preaching and Worship Leadership Prepare and deliver biblically sound, Christ-centered sermons during regular worship services. Lead or oversee worship services in cooperation with worship leaders and church volunteers. Administer the ordinances of believer's baptism and the Lord's Supper. Pastoral Care Provide spiritual guidance, encouragement, and counseling to church members and attendees. Visit members who are hospitalized, homebound, grieving, or facing significant life challenges, as schedules permit. Conduct weddings, funerals, baby dedications, and other pastoral services as appropriate. Leadership and Administration Work collaboratively with deacons, ministry leaders, committees, and staff to accomplish the church's mission. Help develop and communicate a vision for the future of the church. Moderate church business meetings unless otherwise provided by the church bylaws. Support and equip church members for ministry and service. Evangelism and Discipleship Encourage and model personal evangelism and outreach within the community. Promote participation in local, state, national, and international missions, including Southern Baptist mission initiatives. Teach and disciple believers toward spiritual growth and maturity. Community Engagement Represent the church in the local community. Build relationships that foster opportunities for ministry and outreach. Encourage the church to minister to the needs of the surrounding community. Time Commitment This is a part-time, bivocational position requiring flexibility in scheduling.
Expected responsibilities generally include:
Sunday worship services and related preparation. Midweek Bible study or discipleship opportunities. Leadership meetings and church business meetings. Pastoral care and visitation as needed and as scheduling allows. Availability for emergencies and urgent pastoral needs. The church recognizes the demands of outside employment and seeks to work cooperatively with the pastor to establish reasonable expectations and priorities. Accountability The Bivocational Pastor is accountable to the congregation and will work in partnership with the deacons and other church leadership as outlined in the church constitution and bylaws. Compensation Compensation will be determined based on the church's financial ability, the candidate's experience and qualifications, and the agreed-upon scope of responsibilities. Reimbursement for approved ministry expenses may be provided in accordance with church policy. Links to or recordings of recent sermons, if available. Three references, including at least one ministry reference. Mission Statement The Bivocational Pastor will faithfully proclaim God's Word, shepherd God's people with humility and compassion, and lead the church to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the glory of God.
Pay:
$26,000.00 - $32,000.00 per year
