Position Description:

The Pastor of Worship is an Elder-qualified man who provides pastoral leadership for the worship ministries of the Bible Church of Little Rock. The Pastor of Worship will be responsible for planning and leading congregational worship, directing worship ministry teams and volunteers, and providing oversight for technology. This includes the implementation of BCLR's vision and distinctives in the worship ministry. This position will require the ability to lead the people of God in the worship of God; to communicate and model principles of biblical worship; craft worship services based on biblical texts or themes; and to recruit, train, lead, and nurture volunteers for ministry teams. He also serves the congregation through the performance of pastoral and shepherding duties.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Worship Ministry (approximately 66% of the time) Prayerfully plan and direct worship services for Sunday gatherings with consideration given to sermon text, liturgical framework, cohesiveness, variety, vocal and instrumental arrangement, musical appropriateness, and theological accuracy of song lyrics. Ensure that all musical and technical aspects of the corporate worship gathering are suited to the aim of the service. Build and equip teams to participate in the worship ministry of BCLR. Coordinate all weekly activities and rehearsals necessary to facilitate excellent worship services. Produce special worship programs for key events on the church calendar (ie Good Friday, Christmas Eve, Reformation Celebration, Missions Conference, etc). Oversee the worship ministry budget, organization, and volunteers. Establish and monitor short-term and long-term goals for the worship ministry that align with the vision of BCLR. Oversee maintenance and care of all equipment utilized and evaluate and suggest equipment needs. Pastoral Ministry (approximately 34% of the time) Perform shepherding and discipleship responsibilities for the flock. Teach or preach when requested by the Pastor-Teacher. Officiate the monthly communion service when requested. Provide biblical counseling to those who are seeking help. Assist other pastoral staff in planning music for and performing baptisms, funerals, and weddings. May provide oversight of other ministries and initiatives as dictated by gifting, availability, and church needs.

Required Qualifications:

A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a life above reproach that exemplifies 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. Affirmation of the BCLR Doctrinal Statement, Membership Covenant, and philosophies of ministry. A heart for the spiritual formation and growth of those in the congregation and the worship ministry. Bachelor's degree in Biblical Studies, Music, Theology, Worship Studies, or similar. Minimum 2 years of experience as a worship leader. Minimum 2 years of pastoral experience characterized by discipleship, shepherding, pastoral care, and a commitment to God's Word. Understanding of musical performance and experience in choral and instrumental conducting. Vocal proficiency in leading worship. Leadership, organization, and administration skills. Ability to work with chord charts, sheet music, and instrument-specific tablature. Experience in recruiting and managing multiple volunteers, building relationships, and leading successful teams.

Required software skills:

Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Excel, notation software.

Optional Qualifications:

Post-graduate degree such as Master's in Divinity, Biblical Studies, Theological Studies, Worship Leadership, Church Ministries, or similar. 5+ years of demonstrated excellence as a Pastor of Worship. 2+ years of experience serving on an Elder Board. Personal instrumental proficiency (preference for piano or keyboard). Skilled use of technology used to facilitate worship such as sound, lighting, computers, presentation software (Proclaim, PowerPoint), video projection, and live streaming. Biblical counseling certification.

About Bible Church of Little Rock:

Founded in 1951, the Bible Church of Little Rock is a non-denominational church in the capital city of Arkansas. BCLR is an elder-led congregation that is known for expository preaching, God-exalting worship, discipleship in community, and dedicated shepherding. We affirm and celebrate the doctrines of grace. We currently have over 350 members and average between 300-400 attendees for Sunday morning worship. We also have Sunday morning Equipping Hour, mid-week ministries, bi-monthly evening services, and bi-monthly small groups. Our worship philosophy is guided by biblical truth and principles as we seek to worship God in spirit and truth. Our musical style is a reflection of reverent worship of the holy God and a desire for maximum congregational participation by selecting songs that are theologically accurate and vocally accessible. We have a choir and instrumentalists and we are always recruiting and looking for ways to grow and expand the ministry. We recently completed an upgrade to our audio, video, and lighting equipment in June 2022. The full-time Pastor of Worship will join us in glorifying God, proclaiming the gospel, discipling believers, and making Christ known to our community and people around the world.
