JOB SUMMARY
The Priest Chaplain is a member of the Pastoral Care Department responsible for providing Catholic sacramental ministry, including the administration of sacraments such as Eucharist, Anointing of the Sick, and Reconciliation, to patients, families, and hospital staff. This role fulfills a unique and essential function within the hospital by delivering religious services that require priestly ordination and cannot be performed by other chaplain roles.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Visits patients and assess spiritual needs (Pastoral visitation). Celebrates Mass, Administers the Sacraments, Hears Confessions and performs other rites requiring ordained priesthood. Participates in an interdisciplinary approach to pastoral care and patient health. Documents visits and interventions appropriately according to the standards of the healthcare organization. Provide a variety of Christian and Ecumenical and other duties as necessary. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications
EDUCATION B.A
degree in Theology. Master's degree or equivalent in theology or related field Certified Chaplain, CPE Education experience preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Ordained Roman Catholic Priest in good standing, authorized to administer sacraments in accordance with Church doctrine. Previous experience as a Chaplain in a clinical setting, computer skills.
LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, REGISTRATION 1
Unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Board Certification preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
English language. Spanish languages preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS
Requires a good knowledge of Catholic theology, sacramental ministry, and pastoral care for the sick and dying; a strong compassion, communication skills, and the ability to support patients, families, and healthcare staff in emotionally challenging situations.
