Job Description
Associate/Family/Youth Pastor Job Description Downtown CHurch is a rapidly growing church in the resort area of the Iowa Great Lakes (Northwest Iowa). We have a dedicated staff and are focused on misisons, worship, youth and gospel teaching. We are also blessed with fantasic vounteers and members of all ages and experiences. SUMMARY ? Must be a mature man who has faith in Christ, and is gifted and called to local church ministry. ? He will be considered a pastor (and elder) of Downtown Church. ? Assist in teaching God s word, pastoral care and providing leadership of church ministries. ? Must have noticeable love for people and passion to share the gospel with conviction and grace. ? Must be missions-minded (local and global) and have a heart for all people groups and ages. ? Must have a heart for public worship, prayer, relationships, small groups and discipleship. ? Preference given to those with skills in vision casting, planning, decision making and delegating.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
? Work with Lead Pastor, elders and other leaders, in the care, vision and leadership of the church. ? Preach and teach the Bible during worship gatherings, Bible studies and adult Sunday schools. ? Sunday preaching responsibilities would be 6-12 times/year. ? Other worship responsibilities could include announcements, prayer and possibly music. ? Teach and protect the church s doctrine, core values, leadership structure and culture. ? Assist with visitation, counseling, weddings and funerals (as he builds relationships). ? Specialty Leadership - Depending on his experience, interests, strengths and needs of the church, he will provide leadership and supervision of certain ministries. ? Emphasis given to small groups/adult Sunday school, and possibly youth, children and men s. ? This role will include recruiting, training, empowering and encouraging volunteers. ? Serve as liaison between ministries and the lead Pastor, staff and Elders. ? Set an example in passionate worship, faith in Jesus Christ, love, service and discipleship.WORK EXPECTATIONS
? 5.5 day work-week: Averaging 45 hours per week (weeks will sometimes vary in hours). ? Work hours will include Sunday worship, Bible studies, evening meetings, and ministry events. ? Days off include Saturdays and another half/flex day (to be determined with the lead pastor). ? Attend office hours, 8a-5p (flexibility given for lunch time and family events). ? Help lead Sunday worship unless on vacation or other ministries related to Downtown Church. ? Attend regular meetings, as appropriate to his responsibilities. ? Lead (or help) 1-2 small group Bible studies per week (may include youth/children). ? Share on-call duty during evenings and weekends for counseling, visitation, phone calls, etc. ? Reasonable time out of office (to meet people) is encouraged for breakfast, lunch, coffee, etc. ? Reasonable time out of the office, for study/planning, is encouraged (planned with lead pastor). ? Meetings, church events, funerals, weddings, potlucks/picnics, baptisms, suppers with families, prayer meetings, men s events, etc., are considered work hours and a normal part of the job. ? The lead paster (and Elders) will give accountability in taking appropriate time off to rest. ?Attendance is encouraged for:
EFCA Conferences, 1 mission trip/year, and 1 retreats/year.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
? Preference given to a candidate with experience in leading a church and/or Christian ministry. ? Preference given to a candidate who is ordained/licensed in the EFCA (or similar association). ? If not ordained in the EFCA he will be expected to be in process or begin immediately. ? Preference will be given to a candidate with a degree in Christian ministry (MDiv, MA or BA) from a seminary or Christian college/university aligned with the EFCA (or similar association).PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS
? Meets Biblical qualifications of an elder, found in: 1 Timothy, Titus 1, 1 Timothy 5, Galatians 5. ?Solidly affirms the:
doctrine, vision, mission, core values and culture of Downtown church. ? Depends on God through personal, small group and corporate worship, prayer and Bible study. ? Possesses a loving personality, balanced temperament, and solid verbal and listening skills. ? Should be able to have difficult discussions with a mixture of conviction and grace. ? Has the interpersonal skills to relate with people in a multi-generational congregation. ?Gives evidence of maturity in:
sexual purity, moderation, humility, boldness, godliness, rest, hospitality, encouraging speech, generosity, community involvement, and financial stewardship. ? Preference given for skills in administration, vision, planning, decision making and delegating. ? Must be honest about his strengths/weaknesses and be willing to be held accountable.EVALUATION AND COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
? The compensation package will be determined by the board of elders to include: Salary, Housing, Health insurance allowance, Retirement (and possibly other benefits). ? He will be considered a full-time, exempt employee, who is classified (per IRS guidelines) as a self-employed member of the clergy. ? The lead pastor (in cooperation with Elders) will conduct annual performance reviews and make recommendations regarding job status, compensation, raises, etc. ? Health insurance (or Christian sharing program) and retirement (with church match) is required. He is free to choose what kind of plans he wants, which will fit inside his overall package. ?Vacation:
3 full weeks, plus 1 additional Sunday (total of 4 Sundays). ? One (week-long) mission trip and one pastor s conference of choice (may include Sundays). ?
