Job Description

The Chaplain is a full member of the healthcare team who provides for the pastoral needs of patients, families, and staff. Specifically, the Chaplain through professional training assists patient to understand more fully life's events as they relate to their spiritual and emotional well-being. From the patient's life experience, the Chaplain may offer prayer or reflection.
Job Duties:
Carry out the goals of the Pastoral Care Department. Facilitate the celebration of the sacraments as appropriate to his/her clerical status. Offer religious and spiritual guidance to patient, staff, and families. Exemplify and promote the mission and philosophy of St. Bernard Hospitalet relating to patient, families, and staff as well as the general public. Assist families at the time of death of a patient or other crisis. Minister to sexual assault and domestic violence patients according to the department protocol. Assist patient, families, physicians, and staff in ethical decision-making (i.e. levels of treatment preference; withdrawal of treatment; advance directives; and organ/tissue donation). Record pertinent information regarding counseling or sacramental ministry in the appropriate records. Responsible for personal on-going education in pastoral ministry. Flexibility in work hours, programs, and services.
Requirements:
One unit of Clinical Pastoral Education or its equivalent. Completion of a curriculum of theological classes. Bachelor's degree in Theology or related field. (Preferred) CPE certification. (Preferred) Minimum of one (1) year of pastoral experience. Display skills and competencies in pastoral care. Minimum of two (2) years of pastoral care in a hospital setting (Preferred)
Pay:
$21.00 - $38.22 per year
