August 2026 Position Overview St. John the Evangelist Catholic School is seeking a dedicated and faith-filled 1st Grade Teacher to join our vibrant Catholic community. The ideal candidate will nurture the academic, spiritual, and emotional development of young learners while fostering a love for learning rooted in Catholic values and the classical education model . Responsibilities Plan and deliver engaging, age-appropriate lessons aligned with curriculum standards and classical methodology Integrate Catholic teachings and virtues into all subject areas Foster a structured, joyful classroom environment rooted in order and wonder Support foundational skills in reading (phonics-based), writing, and mathematics Incorporate memory work, storytelling, sacred scripture, and lives of the saints Encourage spiritual growth through daily prayer, daily Mass participation, and faith-based activities Communicate effectively with parents, staff, and administration Assess student progress and adapt instruction to meet individual needs Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education or related field Valid teaching license (Indiana or ability to obtain) Commitment to the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church Appreciation for or willingness to learn the classical education model Strong classroom management and communication skills Passion for forming young children in both faith and intellect Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching early elementary grades Familiarity with classical education (Trivium, especially Grammar Stage) Experience in Catholic education or parish life Ability to incorporate music, art, and beauty into daily instruction Spiritual Expectations Model Catholic values and moral leadership Support students in developing a personal relationship with Christ Participate in school Masses, prayer, and faith formation activities How to Apply Please submit: Resume Cover letter Teaching license information
