The Director keeps office hours yet works a flexible schedule according to the demands of the program and the needs of the liturgical season. The work averages 40 hours per week, subject to seasonal variations. They are expected to represent the parish, the Pastoral Team and the Catholic Church in a professional manner, maintaining a professional appearance, honoring all appointments and responding to all voice mails and emails within 24 hours.
TEAM MEMBER
Attends meetings, retreats and other gatherings of the Pastoral Team Collaborates with the clergy, Pastoral Team, parish staff, other parish commissions, the Diocesan Office of Youth Ministry, and area parochial and public schools as needed Proposes opportunities to the Pastoral Team for increasing youth involvement in the life of the parish, and makes the Pastoral Team aware of any special issues facing the youth of the parish Works with other programs (Sacramental Preparation, Religious Education, school) that involve and impact the parish's youth Performs other tasks per the Pastor's requirements Attends other parish functions that may not be specific to his or her job but which benefit from a "ministry of presence"
YOUTH MINISTRY
Plans, implements and evaluates a comprehensive Youth Ministry process, including prayer and worship, catechesis, community life, evangelization, justice and service, leadership development and advocacy Keeps informed of all magisterial and diocesan directives concerning youth ministry and formation, and uses applicable church documents as a framework for all youth ministry efforts Organizes and leads youth group for middle school and high school students Plans service opportunities for youth to fulfill school service hour requirements Organizes additional evangelical experiences for youth, including local service opportunities, longer-term mission and service trips, retreats, youth rallies and conferences, among others Integrates catechesis and prayer into all youth gatherings Designs adolescent formation programs dealing with prayer, the Church, morality, sexuality, relationships, self-image, and other relevant topics Develops leadership skills so that youth may participate more actively in various parish ministries Plans and implements fundraising activities to support youth activities Serves as a resource to adolescents with special needs and their families Coordinates the 8th Grade Service Immersion and 6th Grade Retreat for Christ the King School Designs, coordinates, and works to implement a new experience of encounter for 7th Grade students for Christ the King School Ensures that all volunteers maintain proper boundaries with youth
EVANGELIZATION
Manages, hosts and promotes the parish podcast Oversees the Light of the World Parish Retreat program Evaluates current evangelization efforts to ensure they are meeting the needs of the parish, while exploring new programs and opportunities for parish evangelization Maintains the parish web site
ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicates with youth, parents and the wider parish community through bulletin announcements, event flyers, newsletters, and social media Prepares and monitors a program budget Recruits, trains and supervises volunteers Ensures that all volunteers have met the requirements for training and background checks as mandated by the diocesan Safe Environment policy Provides and maintains Medical and Liability Release forms for all youth participating in parish-sponsored events Maintains accurate records for attendance and service hours, as needed Degree of Theology is preferred Proficiency and knowledge with use of technology
