Job Description

Children's Minister 115 Paddock Drive, Versailles, KY 40383 $20 an hour - Part-time $20 an hour - Part-time St. Andrew's Children's Minister will be responsible for all children's discipleship programs, and for cultivating and developing the family life and culture of the parish. This role will involve and take seriously the spiritual life of our children, both in the parish and within the life of the family. We want to build an environment where families do not just outsource the discipleship of their kids to the church, but find with us resources and help to build a life of family discipleship, where we assist them in raising their children in the Lord. This role will help St. Andrew's build an environment that is inviting and appealing for families to root themselves here by building a community that is Gospel-driven and family-friendly. St. Andrew's has some programs in place toward that end, but we are looking for someone to help implement more creative ideas and means to bring young families into our community and serve them. St. Andrew's believes that children are not the future of the church, but they are the church right now! So, our treatment for them reflects their membership as a beloved group within this congregation that requires particular care and focus. Typically, all children will begin the service in the main sanctuary, and then be dismissed for age-appropriate teaching, to then rejoin the congregation for communion. When there is a fifth Sunday of the month, we have all children remain in the service for the entire time. We currently have a Godly Play class for our preschool and elementary-age children, and a middle school Bible study class. This position will report to and be supervised by the Rector. Qualifications The ideal candidate for this position:
  • Affirms the Christian faith as outlined in the Nicene Creed, 39 Articles of Religion, and the Jerusalem Declaration.
  • Demonstrably loves Jesus, and is able to articulate the Gospel in concrete terms and understand its implications for daily life.
  • Loves the Word of God, and is able to teach and articulate the narrative arc of Scripture, interpreting passages in light of God's story of redemption in Christ.
  • Loves children, and is passionate about their spiritual life and development.
  • Has previous experience in teaching and ministering to children.
  • Has experience in creating and shaping environments of safety, fun, and spiritual depth.
  • Will be trained in Godly Play curriculum, or is willing to undergo training. A trained team is already in place, so while previous Godly Play training is desirable, an applicant should not be hesitant to apply if they are not, if they are willing to learn and be trained in this curriculum.
  • Is comfortable working as part of a team, and is able to effectively delegate, honor, and celebrate the work of volunteers.
  • Is willing to submit to a background check, references check, and undergo MinistrySafe training. Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee the Nursery o Keep track of nursery worker paid hours and submit them to payroll. o Coordinate volunteer rotation and schedule. o Ensure nursery supplies are stocked and prepared each week.
  • Building family culture at St. Andrew's o Work with staff and volunteers to plan and execute events and programs to engage, disciple, and build community among families and children at the church. o Cultivate a vision for family discipleship in the church.
  • Participate in the Avanza tutoring program o Build relationships with kids in our tutoring program, and provide opportunities for deeper connection with the church o Work with Avanza director to make our outreach and discipleship programs work well together.

  • Regular communication and consultation with the rector and staff team.
