ABOUT US
Temple Israel of Minneapolis is a dynamic, growing congregation committed to honoring the legacy of progressive Jewish life in our city. For nearly 150 years, we have been a place to learn, celebrate, mourn, and gather in community. As we navigate an ever-changing world, Temple Israel adds richness, meaning, and ritual to the lives of our congregants through the lens of Jewish wisdom. Our dynamic staff team is made up of both Jewish and non-Jewish professionals. We value the diversity and dedication of staff, who work together to serve our congregation and community. All new hires must successfully pass a background check. Position Summary High-level administrative and strategic support to our Associate Rabbis, who oversee Temple Israel's program, engagement, and education functions. Support as a collaborative team member within the larger clergy and administrative support structure. This includes providing occasional support to other clergy or filling in at the front desk as needed, especially when another assistant is out of the office. Schedule This is a fully in-person role based in our historic synagogue in the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis. The role is anticipated to follow a mostly Monday-Friday schedule with occasional evening and weekend hours to support programming and education. Core Competencies High emotional intelligence — intuitive, perceptive, and able to build trust across a broad spectrum of constituents. Excellent interpersonal skills; comfortable interacting one-on-one, on the phone, and in small or large groups. Proactive, organized, and adaptable to changing needs and priorities. Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Strong judgement and discretion with confidential information. Collaborative team player with a service, member-focused mindset. Tech-savvy and systems-oriented. Strong proficiency in MS Office Suite, Google Workspace, and familiarity with Salesforce or other CRM systems is preferred, along with a willingness to regularly adapt to evolving technology. Experience or interest in social media is a plus. Comfortable balancing both logistical and relational aspects of synagogue life. Familiarity with Jewish customs and synagogue operations, or willingness to learn. Essential Functions Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Associate Rabbis, managing complex and dynamic calendars, preparing for meetings and events, and supporting follow-up communications. Assist with pastoral care tracking, clergy team coordination, and special projects. Serve as a primary point of contact for the Associate Rabbis, triaging requests, and providing timely and appropriate responses. Develop and maintain systems for task management and CRM (Salesforce) data entry to support rabbinic work. Collaborate with the broader administrative team to ensure seamless support for senior leadership. Provide administrative support for ongoing programs such as (but not limited to) social justice initiatives, young adult programming and holiday programs in coordination with the Program & Adult Education Director and Associate Rabbis Utilize our CRM, Salesforce, to track life cycle events, program participation, generate reports, and run regular correspondence for clergy (e.g., acknowledgments for discretionary gifts).
