SUMMARY:
To learn the foundations of a pastoral identity and develop spiritual skills while providing a living opportunity within nurturing environments of hope, dignity, and love to all members of the St. John's United community. The format is an "action-reflection" model of learning, meaning that the intern will serve as a fully participatory member of the Spiritual Care Team (working as a Chaplain), with added supervision to process their experiences.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
CHAPLAINCY Emotional and spiritual support to all elders regardless of religious preference Leading worship services. Contacting appropriate spiritual resources for elders of different traditions than the chaplains. Leading a weekly communion service in each area assigned. Scheduling vigils for dying elders when families request. Provide emotional and spiritual support to family members and friends of elders. Conducting a memorial service for an elder who has died upon request. Sharing the mission and ministry of St. John's United in a congregational setting by leading an adult forum, preaching, or leading worship. Being attentive to needs of Center for Generations leading preschool Chaplain involvements. Actively participate in weekly supervisory sessions with supervisors.

Regularly participating as a constructive member of weekly department meetings; communicating openly and honestly with each other. Accepting any assigned tasks at department meetings. Offering input for care strategies and ideas to improve care of individual elders or units as a whole. Being a support to staff members. Lending a hand where appropriate and necessary. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Safety Obeys safety rules of St. John's United. Identifies, reports, and/or corrects obvious safety hazards. Attends mandatory safety in-services.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Employee Responsibilities Follows policy and procedures on tuberculosis testing. Follows policy and procedures on annual influenza vaccinations. Attends all mandatory in-services. Performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Requirements:
Prerequisite coursework from an accredited seminary, and approval from candidacy committee or other judicatory body. Knowledge, skills, and abilities required: Writing and editing skills. Ability to coordinate and organize. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to gather and analyze statistical data and generate reports. Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Ability to manage detail. Highly computer literate with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Requires minimal lifting, moderate bending, standing, walking, reaching and twisting. Extended periods of sitting.
