Job Description

Overview Greenford Christian Church is looking for a full-time Austintown Campus Student Minister to lead and grow student ministry at our Austintown Campus. Basically, we re looking for someone who loves Jesus and students, and who does not panic when a room full of middle schoolers has the energy of a small tornado. This role leads both middle school students and high school students at the Austintown Campus. The good news? You are not starting from zero. There is already a solid volunteer team, students are already showing up, and the ministry has a healthy foundation. We need someone who can build on that, bring some vision, and help students take real steps toward Jesus. You will be part of the larger GCC Student Ministry Team, so this is not a go sit alone in a ministry cave and figure it out kind of job. You will collaborate with other student ministry leaders, campus staff, family ministry staff, and the wider GCC team. The right person is relational, self-motivated, coachable, spiritually grounded, and able to connect with students, parents, and volunteers without making it weird. Big healthy leader energy required. About GCC Greenford Christian Church has been around since 1830, which means we were doing ministry before WiFi and group texts. GCC is one church in multiple locations, with campuses in Greenford, Boardman, Austintown , and online. Across all campuses, our mission is to help people follow Jesus and become lifelong disciples. For GCC Students, our mission is simple: Know Jesus. Become like Jesus. Make Jesus known. That is the whole assignment. Current Austintown Student Ministry Vibe The Austintown Campus already has: A volunteer team in place and actively serving Around 8-10 high school students weekly Around 2-3 middle school students weekly A real opportunity to build relationships and create long-term ministry impact So yes, there is room to grow. But this is not a please rescue this from total chaos situation. It is more like, There is something good here, and we want the right leader to help it grow. Key Responsibilities Lead the Weekly Student Ministry Environment You will help lead the Sunday morning student ministry for middle school and high school students. That includes teaching, helping students connect, creating a welcoming space, and making sure the environment feels intentional instead of we found some chairs and hoped for the best. Build Relationships Student ministry is not just programs and pizza...( Though, let s be honest, pizza will probably be involved ). You will build real relationships with: Students Parents Volunteers Campus staff The broader GCC Student Ministry Team The goal is to help students feel seen, known, encouraged, and pointed toward Jesus. Recruit and Develop Volunteers You will help recruit, encourage, train, and coach volunteer leaders.
Translation :
You will not do everything yourself like some kind of exhausted ministry superhero. You will build a team, care for that team, and help them win. Teach and Disciple Students You will help students grow in their faith through: Bible teaching Group discussion Prayer Worship Spiritual formation Real conversations about real life We want students to know Jesus personally, not just know random Bible trivia and how to survive a church lock-in. Work With the GCC Student Ministry Team You will collaborate with the larger student ministry team on: Events Curriculum Communication Ministry strategy Combined gatherings Camps and retreats All-campus student ministry moments You will have your own campus to lead, but you are also part of a bigger team. Lone ranger ministry is not the vibe. Communicate Well You will use technology and communication tools to connect with students and families. This includes things like texts, emails, social media, planning tools, and whatever new app everyone is using for three weeks before abandoning it. You do not need to be a tech wizard, but you do need to be comfortable communicating clearly and consistently. Typical Activities Weekly Student Ministry You will help lead and shape weekly student ministry gatherings for middle school and high school students. This includes teaching, small groups, connecting with students, helping volunteers succeed, and making sure the ministry feels meaningful, fun, and spiritually strong. Camps and Retreats You will attend and help lead major student ministry events, including: Middle School Camp High School Camp Winter Retreat CIY or similar student events when needed Kids Camp support when needed Camps are spiritually powerful, deeply meaningful, and also somehow always involve someone losing a water bottle, hoodie, or their entire ability to follow basic instructions. Community Events You will help create moments where students can build friendships, invite others, and experience healthy Christian community. This could include hangouts, outreach events, combined campus gatherings, fun nights, service opportunities, or other creative ideas that help students connect. Pastoral Care You will help care for students and families through prayer, encouragement, conversations, and support during difficult moments. You may also assist with occasional pastoral responsibilities, including: Weddings Funerals Hospital visits Care situations as needed This role is student-focused, but it is still a ministry role. People matter. Presence matters. Campus Leadership You will be a key ministry leader at the Austintown Campus. That means showing up, building trust, supporting the campus, helping create a healthy ministry culture, and being a visible part of what God is doing there. Church-Wide Ministry Participation You will participate in several major all-staff church ministry moments, including: Christmas Eve Services Easter Services Canfield Fair Service on Labor Day Weekend These are required because we are one church together, and also because Christmas Eve and Easter are not exactly take the week off and vibe moments in church ministry. Who We re Looking For We are looking for someone who is: A committed follower of Jesus Passionate about students Relational and easy to connect with Coachable and willing to grow Self-motivated and dependable A clear communicator Comfortable leading from the front and caring behind the scenes Able to work well on a team Spiritually mature without being spiritually weird Organized enough to lead ministry without everything being held together by vibes and caffeine Fun, flexible, and willing to laugh Fully aligned with GCC s mission, values, and leadership Willing to be ordained or already ordained Legally able to work in the United States We are not looking for someone who simply wants a platform. We are looking for someone who wants to pastor students, build leaders, support families, and help students follow Jesus for the long haul. Green Flags You might be a strong fit if: Students naturally connect with you Parents trust you Volunteers feel encouraged by you You can teach the Bible in a way students actually understand You are serious about Jesus but still know how to have fun You do not treat middle school ministry like punishment You can handle chaos without becoming chaos You want to be part of a team, not build your own personal kingdom You care more about discipleship than hype The Big Goal At the end of the day, this role is about helping students become lifelong disciples of Jesus. We want students at the Austintown Campus to know they belong, know they matter, and know that following Jesus is the best way to live. This is not babysitting with Bible verses. This is not a youth group as a weekly religious hangout. This is discipleship, leadership, community, and mission. Compensation & Benefits This is a salaried, full-time position .
