Senior Pastor

PURPOSE OF POSITION

The purpose of the position of Senior Pastor of Calvary Bible Church is to lead the ministry of Calvary Bible Church, cultivate and maintain the spiritual health and direction of the church, provide oversight to the spiritual matters of the church, and lead in the fulfillment of the Great Commission. He shall not cause or allow any practice, activity, decision or ministerial circumstance that is unbiblical, unlawful, imprudent or in violation of Calvary Bible Church's Constitution or sound biblical, ethical and professional practices.

PREREQUISITES

The Senior Pastor must fulfill the biblical qualifications for the office of elder (1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:6-9). He shall be baptized by immersion, wholeheartedly agree with Calvary Bible Church's Doctrinal Statement, and submit to the Constitution of the church. While seminary training is preferred, the Senior Pastor must demonstrate a genuine and growing relationship with Jesus Christ. Candidates for the position of Senior Pastor must possess a master's degree in theology, divinity, pastoral ministry or a related field from an accredited institution.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

The Senior Pastor will lead the ministry of Calvary Bible Church. He will provide oversight to the spiritual matters of the church, cast vision for the church, cultivate the spiritual health and unity of the church, and lead in the fulfillment of the Great Commission and the Greatest Commandment found in Matthew 22:36-40. He shall not cause or allow any practice, activity, decision or ministerial circumstance that is unbiblical, unlawful, imprudent, or in violation of Calvary Bible Church's Constitution or Scripture.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES

Worship Services The Senior Pastor will oversee the ministerial operations of Calvary Bible Church and will be responsible for the Sunday morning worship experience. He will serve as the primary preacher for Sunday worship services. He may delegate certain preaching and/or teaching responsibilities to other qualified individuals but will preach a minimum of three (3) services per month across the Sunday morning worship services at 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. He shall not allow conditions, procedures or decisions that interfere with or violate the established ministry philosophy of Calvary Bible Church without Elder Board approval. He will cultivate an environment that encourages the unchurched to attend and begin building a closer relationship with God. He will foster an environment that promotes the spiritual growth and maturity of believers. He shall not allow cultural barriers, traditions, or personal preferences within the church to hinder outreach to the unchurched or allow inward focus to dominate outward vision. Pastoral Ministry The Senior Pastor, in conjunction with the Elder Board, will establish and maintain a congregational care ministry. This ministry will be administered primarily through Adult Bible Fellowship classes and, whenever possible, extended to those who attend CBC but are not involved in an ABF class. He will visit church members who are hospitalized or in nursing homes and conduct weddings, funerals, baptisms, child dedications, and counseling as appropriate. Leadership Development The Senior Pastor will provide training and spiritual leadership for Elder Board members. He shall ensure the Elder Board is informed, equipped, and supported in its responsibilities while operating according to the Elder Board-Senior Pastor Relations policy. He shall provide mentorship, leadership development, and spiritual support for the Youth Pastor. Administration All full-time and part-time staff members will be accountable to the Senior Pastor. He may delegate supervision responsibilities to other qualified individuals. He will oversee staff scheduling, vacations, and time off and will provide his vacation schedule and time off information to the Elder Board. The Senior Pastor will oversee the hiring and dismissal process of paid church staff members in consultation with the Elder Board. With respect to paid and volunteer staff, the Senior Pastor shall not cause or allow conditions that are undignified, disorganized, or unclear. The Senior Pastor will ensure written ministry descriptions are maintained which: Clearly state expectations for staff Provide procedures for handling grievances Protect against inappropriate or wrongful conditions He will ensure that staff members are adequately qualified, trained, and supervised within their scope of responsibility. He will ensure staff maintain a clear understanding of the purpose, scope, and expectations of Calvary Bible Church's ministry entities. He will ensure staff are prepared to respond appropriately to emergency situations and media inquiries. He will clearly communicate staff protections and expectations under applicable church policies. The Senior Pastor will provide written ministry descriptions for lay leadership positions within the church, outlining purpose, responsibilities, and accountability.

Pay:

$70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
