Job Description
JOB TITLE
Location Pastor (Lower Bucks Launch)
REPORTS TO
Executive Pastor of Ministries
NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB A
Location Pastor at The Block Church will be the primary leader, facilitator, and shepherd of his or her assigned location. This particular opportunity is unique, as it involves launching a brand-new Block Church location in the Lower Bucks suburbs of Philadelphia. We are looking for a self-starter who thrives in pioneering environments, embraces building from the ground up, and is passionate about seeing people come to know Jesus. The Location Pastor s primary focus will be to disciple and shepherd people, develop leaders and volunteers, establish healthy ministry systems, and grow the location into a thriving, sustainable church. Much of the vision, communication, and day-to-day leadership of the location will flow through the Location Pastor. Their leadership will be evident and essential in establishing a healthy culture, building strong volunteer teams, and sustaining long-term growth. Finally, we expect our Location Pastors to be visible advocates for their communities by building meaningful relationships, serving local organizations, and hosting a monthly Serve Saturday. SALARY Salary is full-time with benefits. Compensation is based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated leadership ability.
LAUNCH ENVIRONMENT
This role is different from stepping into an established location. As the Location Pastor of our new Lower Bucks location, you will help launch the location from the ground up, build the culture, volunteer teams, and community presence from day one.
The ideal candidate:
Is a self-starter who takes initiative without needing constant direction. Possesses an entrepreneurial mindset and enjoys building more than maintaining. Is adaptable, resourceful, and energized by new challenges. Naturally builds relationships and enjoys becoming a visible presence in the community. Is passionate about reaching people who are far from God and helping them become fully devoted followers of Jesus. Recruits, develops, and empowers volunteers into healthy ministry teams. Loves both the strategic and pastoral aspects of ministry. Understands that launching a church requires flexibility, grit, faith, and a willingness to do whatever is needed to accomplish the mission.
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Ultimately, our goal for each location is to grow into a healthy, sustainable church averaging a minimum of 250 people with at least two weekend services. We are building neighborhood and community-driven churches that become foundational to their respective communities. Financial sustainability at the location level is expected, and the Location Pastor will oversee the location budget with support from our Central Team. Meet regularly with each ministry coordinator and invest in them by maintaining a healthy pulse on every ministry area. Help solve staffing challenges, encourage leaders, and strengthen volunteer teams. Hold weekly meetings with key lay leaders, investing in their spiritual and leadership development. Become deeply involved in the surrounding community by attending meetings, joining business alliances, connecting with schools, and participating in local events. Build relationships with local police, fire departments, civic leaders, and community organizations. Spend intentional time in coffee shops, community gathering spaces, local businesses, schools, and neighborhoods making connections, inviting people, and representing The Block Church. Provide pastoral counseling and shepherd church members through life s significant moments. Partner with Elders and Prayer Coordinators to oversee benevolence, funeral needs, and hospital visitation. Prepare thoroughly for Sunday services by reviewing the order of service, leading offering moments, coordinating with ministry leaders, and ensuring teams are fully staffed. Continually improve systems and organizational effectiveness as the location grows. Manage the location budget while cultivating a healthy culture of generosity. Potential preaching opportunities based upon communication gifting; however, our greatest need is a disciple-making shepherd and leader developer. Assist with guest follow-up, new believer follow-up, baptisms, child dedications, and special events. Personally know who is walking through the doors and help people take next steps through serving, Block Groups, giving, and discipleship. Lead a weekly New to The Block Group introducing people to our mission, values, and community. Write a weekly communication specific to your location. Regularly spend time with people through meals, coffee, home visits, and informal relationship building. Participate in church-wide staff meetings and organizational leadership conversations.
Office Rhythm Mondays:
9:00 AM - 4:00
PM Wednesdays:
9:00 AM - 1:00 PM for staff prayer, leadership development, meetings, and evening ministry responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS
Demonstrated success serving in a ministry environment. Experience providing pastoral care, counseling, leading teams, and developing leaders. Passion for evangelism, discipleship, leadership development, and pastoral ministry. A proactive leader with strong organizational ability, emotional intelligence, and excellent communication skills. Ability to work collaboratively while communicating with humility, honor, and clarity. A proven self-starter who thrives in entrepreneurial environments where teams, systems, and ministries are being built from the ground up. Previous experience launching ministries, campuses, churches, or significant initiatives is strongly preferred. Minimum of two years of hands-on ministry experience preferred.
WHAT IS A PASTOR?
In Acts 20:28, Paul refers to pastors in a verb form, translated to feed or to care for. Pastors feed, tend, and protect the church. In this verse the church is called the flock, and pastors are referred to as shepherds.
ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

We are a growing, multi-site church with deep urban roots and an expanding vision to plant and replant churches throughout Philadelphia, the surrounding suburbs, and ultimately the nation. The Block is a place where social, economic, religious, and political walls are torn down. Together, as we insert the power of Christ, we make up one block, one people, one body, and one city. Our mission is to Revive Every Block.
ABOUT PHILADELPHIA & LOWER BUCKS
