Job Description

Vincentian Home in the North Hills of Pittsburgh is looking for a Full Time Spiritual Enrichment Associate! Typically Monday-Friday with some flexibility on the weekends preferred.
Summary:
The Spiritual Enrichment Associate is responsible for working with the Community Life Manager in the development and implementation of a continuum of pastoral care services available for meeting the needs of residents and families. To assist in better meeting these needs, the Spiritual Enrichment Associate supports and works with the spiritual care team. It is the duty of all employees to promote and support a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Commits to the Vincentian Collaborative System (VCS) mission to nurture and sustain a ministry of compassionate care that preserves the human dignity of persons within a diverse and changing society. 2. Upholds and promotes the VCS values of spirituality, compassion, quality, dignity, collaboration, advocacy, stewardship and innovation. 3. Promotes and supports a resident centered care environment that ensures the treatment of all residents, family members, visitors, fellow employees and customers with kindness, respect, and dignity. 4. Adheres to all facility and department work rules, policies and procedures. 5. Consults with administration, especially in areas of policy formation. 6. Keeps VCS and facility administration updated on spiritual care team and religious activities. 7. Implements a continuum of spiritual care services for residents including Eucharistic liturgies, the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, distribution of the Eucharist to the room bound, and other religious activities and services, including those appropriate to all denominations. 8. Develops annual goals and objectives in discussion with the Administrator and the Manager of Community Life. 9. Recruits new volunteers and provides training, ongoing development and supervision of the members of the spiritual care team through monthly meetings. 10. Works with the members of the spiritual care team and the community life department for coordination of services. 11. Provides documentation on all spiritual care for charting on the resident's daily participation record. 12. Performs initial assessment to determine the spiritual needs and wishes of the residents. Inputs assessment data into PCC. 13. Conducts and documents regular visits with residents. 14. Prays with residents who are seriously ill and dying; provide support and assistance to the families when a resident is dying; be available to speak to residents/families/employees regarding spiritual issues, i.e. coping skills, death, grief, etc. 15. Conducts "Final Farewell" services upon the death of a resident and attend wakes or funerals of residents who have died when duties permit. 16. Maintains confidentiality at all times. 17. Assists with chapel maintenance, all supplies, reimbursements and the schedule for Clergy, Eucharistic Ministers, and the liturgy intentions. 18. Helps maintain a library of books, magazines, videos, cd's and other spiritual materials that would benefit residents, families, staff and volunteers. 19. Provides for ministry on weekends and holidays as needed. 20. Performs other services and duties as assigned.
Education/Experience:
1. Bachelor's Degree or comparable work experience is required. 2. Solid standing in the Roman Catholic Church as evidenced by ecclesiastical endorsement. 3. Two years of pastoral experience in a healthcare setting is preferred. 4. One unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) is preferred. 5. Knowledge of and support of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services Publication.

Work Environment:
Employees of a long term care facility work in a resident care environment that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days per year. Employees can be expected to be exposed to unpleasant odors and may encounter physically or verbally aggressive residents. Working conditions include normal indoor temperatures. There may also be times when employees perform duties outdoors. Depending on the season, outdoor temperatures will vary. Employees may come into contact with residents who have infectious diseases or to resident bodily fluids or blood.
