Director of Church Administration

Emmaus United Church of Christ (900 Maple Ave. East, Vienna, VA), seeks an energetic and passionate Christian interested in helping manage and support our church - its staff, congregants, buildings, and renters. This position is a great opportunity to grow with a vibrant thriving congregation. We require a church administrator with good management, collaboration, interpersonal, and communications skills to make sure everything runs smoothly on our large campus with three buildings used by multiple congregations and renters. The position primarily involves creating and distributing church communications, managing the robust calendar, coordinating maintenance, and welcoming building users. We are looking for a motivated, thoughtful person committed to the mission of the local church as a place that is welcoming to all people who come through the doors.

Goal :

to hire a Director of Church Administration (DCA) to start as soon as possible and work up to 23 hours a week with a minimum of 20 hours a week in the church office. Occasional remote work may be possible if arranged ahead and approved by the Senior Minister. $20-25 dollars per hour depending on experience and education, with some college preferred. Benefits include up to two weeks (46 hours) of paid time off and additional unpaid time to be scheduled in coordination with the Senior Minister. The ideal candidate will be self-directed, organized, capable of using technology, an effective communicator, and physically comfortable walking around our 5-acre property with uneven terrain. The DCA manages all the church administrative functions, providing office support to the minister and general support to the ministries of the church, including acting as a liaison for building use. The DCA acts as receptionist, greets people to the campus, responds to phone and email requests, and: Consults with the minister to create the bulletin for each worship service during the year, including wedding, funeral, and memorial service bulletins, as necessary; Organizes the church office; Manages all communications coming into and from the church office; Maintains and updates church calendars and membership database; In coordination with our Property and Rental team, acts as building use coordinator for Emmaus renters and Emmaus vendors and volunteers who maintain buildings and grounds; and Provides limited administrative support to the staff, the Church Council and Ministry Leads. The DCA reports directly to the Senior Minister. The Church Council establishes the guidelines and the mechanism by which Emmaus employs the DCA. Emmaus United Church of Christ is a mainline protestant congregation of about 100 families with a commitment to learning, justice, inclusivity and service. We have thriving programs for all ages including a youth group of more than 25 teens. Our staff includes a full time Senior Minister, a half-time Minister for Faith Formation and Mission, a half-time music director in addition to the Director of Church Administration.
