This role will have a focus on hospitality, engagement, and programmatic offerings, effectively "setting the table" for the church's work. This will be done by working under the supervision of the Senior Pastor to help organize, direct, and implement church programs and events that foster spiritual growth, community engagement, and connection within the church. The Director will help ensure these programs and events are effectively organized, appropriately staffed, and well-communicated. The Director will work closely with the Senior Pastor to provide strategic administrative support.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Connection and Engagement Congregational Life Serve as the staff representative for the Congregational Life committee. Support volunteers by overseeing and coordinating logistics, recruitment and event set-up for all congregational life events. Example events include, but are not limited to: Journey to Bethlehem, Art on Oak, Front Porch Concerts, Kick-off Volunteer Fair, Chiefs Tailgate, Second Sunday Lunches, Trivia Night, All Church Retreat, Women's Retreat and Men's Retreat. Recruit, train, and retain volunteer leaders. Develop leadership pipelines for ministry and congregational life. Create systems that increase volunteer engagement and effectiveness. Oversee and coordinate Dinners for seven and C3 small groups. Young Adults Build up the young adult ministry by planning, staffing and communicating monthly young adult (20s & 30s) events for the congregation. Matthew 25 Provide administrative, logistic, set-up and supply support to the Matthew 25 committee for events such as, but not limited to: Be the Church Sunday, PrideFest, service trips, and racial justice events. Hospitality, Invitation and Membership Support a worship environment of welcome and warmth by overseeing, training, and recruiting ushers for Sunday morning services, funerals and special events. Serve as the point connection person for visitors and new members, shepherding them through the membership process and into areas of deeper connection in the congregation. Lead First Look at Second and provide administrative and staff support to Membership Classes. Develop processes for tracking visitor engagement, membership pathways, volunteer involvement, and pastoral care referrals. Generate regular reports on engagement trends, participation, and connection opportunities. Coordinate follow-up communication with visitors, prospective members, and inactive congregants. Deacons Collaborate with the Senior Pastor to provide administrative, relational and logistical support to Deacon meetings. For candidates experienced in pastoral care, social service work, and/or counseling- provide staff leadership and oversight to Deacon meetings.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Executive Support Executive Support to Senior Pastor Serve as the primary administrative partner to the Senior Pastor. Manage and prioritize communications, correspondence, and follow-up tasks. Coordinate the Senior Pastor's calendar, meetings, and key relationships. Track action items arising from staff meetings, Session, committees, and strategic initiatives. Prepare agendas, briefing materials, and meeting follow-up documentation. Ensure execution of priorities established by the Senior Pastor. Function as lead on projects on behalf of the Senior Pastor. The Admin Support and provide information to the Director of Communications to help ensure that the website is up to date with upcoming congregational events, sign-up links and room reservations. Participate in regular staff meetings and planning sessions. Maintain and oversee the church database and constituent relationship management (CRM) system. Communication Coordination Draft and manage correspondence on behalf of the Senior Pastor as assigned. Ensure timely follow-up to congregational inquiries, visitor contacts, and ministry requests. Coordinate communication flow between the Senior Pastor, staff, volunteers, and congregants. Other duties - Perform other duties as apparent or assigned by the Senior Pastor. Requiremented Qualifications Demonstrated commitment to the Christian faith and support for the mission and ministry of Second Presbyterian Church. An outgoing, engaging personality; friendly and approachable by all ages; a warm, hospitable, and gracious manner when interacting with others. Value of hospitality, inclusion and connection. Ensure all activities and conduct are compliant with church policies, as well as all relevant laws and regulations. Strong organizational, administrative, and project management skills, including attention to detail and follow through. Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality. Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, church leaders, and congregation members, and diverse persons and communities. Ability to plan effectively, manage time, meet deadlines, address difficult issues, and follow projects through to completion with minimal directions and supervision . Preferred Qualifications 3-5 years experience working in a church, nonprofit, educational, or ministry setting. Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience. Experience with event planning, volunteer coordination, or ministry administration. Experience leading volunteers and coordinating teams. Schedule Work schedule includes Sundays + 4 weekdays, with evening commitments. Candidate can choose between a consistent Monday, Wednesday or Friday off.
