GENERAL CONDITIONS
The Youth & Family Minister works alongside a team of staff, volunteers, and families to teach, embody, and proclaim the Christian faith at First Lutheran Church. As a core member of the Youth and Family team, this person will build on and strengthen the church's thriving Milestones and Confirmation programs while actively cultivating meaningful connections
  • between families and each other, and between families and the broader life of the church.
The Youth & Family Minister will be a visible relational presence in the lives of youth and their families, not only in programming, but in everyday life. This person will create an environment where families feel genuinely "at home" from baptism through young adulthood. First Lutheran Church is a Christian Ministry in Sioux Falls, SD and has a wonderful history as a confessional Lutheran Congregation. Our purpose is to proclaim and equip proclaimers in the Christian faith through the means of grace. Employment at First Lutheran is on an "at will" basis. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Build family-to-family connections within the congregation
  • intentionally create opportunities for families to meet, build relationships, and experience genuine community as a body of Christ, not just fellow attendees.
Invest relationally in youth and families beyond formal programming: attend concerts, games, and school events; meet with parents for coffee; be a present and caring figure in their everyday lives. Collaborate with the Youth and Family Board to support and strengthen the ministries of First Lutheran Church. Lead and develop the youth program and ministry for 6th graders to young adults, which includes partnering with the Youth & Family Pastor to prepare the Confirmation program for grades 6-10th and the weekly HS Youth Group gatherings (grades 9-12) Continue to organize, teach, and develop a comprehensive milestones program that deepens faith and strengthens family connections at every stage of a child's life. Plan with both short-term execution and long-term vision

  • organized ministry calendar while consistently thinking ahead to build a ministry that grows in depth and participation over time. Coordinate and lead Multi-generational quarterly Events and Multi-generational Sunday School events that brings the whole congregation together. Work with the Youth & Family Pastor to lead monthly Bible studies and activities for YALA (Young Adult Lutherans in Action)
  • ages 18-30). Actively pursue outreach to disconnected FLC families
  • reach out to inactive families and extend invitations engaging those not yet connected with the congregation.
Work with the Children and Youth Minister to plan and execute events, fundraising, retreats, and summer camps for children, youth and families. Facilitate children and youth involvement in weekly worship (children's message, acolytes, youth communion servers, and youth ushers). Recruit and train volunteers, adult leaders, and shepherds for various programs and events. Work with other ministry areas to strengthen the proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus. Work with the Children's and Youth Minister and the Youth and Family Communications Coordinator to complete other duties as assigned.

Employment:
Full-time, Salaried (salary range is 45K to 50K in relation to education, experience, and ability)
Benefits:
4 weeks PTO, Health Insurance, 403B retirement, continuing education offered and encouraged Approximate weekly schedule; Sunday 8a
  • 12p, Monday 9a-5p, Tuesday 9a-5p, Wednesday 10a

$45,000.00
