Job Description

Alcoa First Methodist Church Title:
Director of Youth Ministries ⸻
Purpose:
To build young disciples for Christ, both inside the church family and in the community, by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission and outreach while serving as a spiritual leader. ⸻
Status:
Full-time, Salaried. ⸻
Hours:
40 hours per week with a non-traditional schedule. Travel, events and mission trips will require additional hours. ⸻

Organizational Relationship and Supervision:
The Director of Youth Ministries (DYM) reports to the Senior Pastor and the Staff Parish Relations Committee. The DYM will be responsible and subject to the Global Methodist policy and doctrine, as well as local church policy determined by the Charge Conference, Senior Pastor, and Staff Parish Relations Committee. Attendance at staff meetings and scheduled Church Council meetings is required. ⸻
The Primary Task:
There shall be a comprehensive approach to the development and implementations of the youth ministry program. This comprehensive approach is based on the understanding that the primary tasks of youth ministry are: Love youth where they are, both church members and community members Encourage participation in youth group to all 6th-12th grade church members Encourage youth in developing their relationship with Christ Model a personal and maturing walk with Jesus Christ for our youth Provide an environment that encourages Christian fellowship for youth Provide youth an environment that encourages Christian fellowship for youth Provide youth with opportunities for nurture and growth Challenge youth to respond to God's call to serve in their communities and the world ⸻
Responsibilities:
Be an advocate for youth and educate the congregation about the hopes, concerns, and needs of youth in the local church and community. Help plan, develop and implement all aspects of a balanced youth ministry in the areas of group building, worship, discipleship, mission and outreach. Work to spiritually and numerically grow the youth program. Reach out to youth in the church family who may not be active in the youth program, including them in all invitations, newsletters, etc. to ensure the opportunity for participation. Establish and support a Youth Council or similar organization and ensure it functions as a workable advisory board for youth group operations and direction. Work to involve youth attending youth activities to also participate in congregations worship services, Sunday school and other church wide activities. Be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities. Recruit and train volunteers who work with youth in all aspects of youth ministry and ensure adequate volunteer support and adult to youth ratios. Be a liaison between the church, school and other community organizations, people and resources that relate to youth and youth ministries. Coordinate and help teach Confirmation classes in partnership with the Pastor(s) and provide leadership for Confirmation class members, mentors, and parents beyond the classroom. Work in partnership with established church committees, the staff and pastors to effectively reach youth in the church and community and develop a strategic youth ministry outreach plan. Keep records of youth participations and maintain appropriate permission and medical forms for youth participants. Help establish and manage the youth budget. Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources, social media, bulletin, newsletter, etc. Ensure communication with church staff and leadership, parents and the congregation as a whole. Be available to youth in a variety of ways (i.e. attendance at extracurricular activities, visitations, times of crisis, etc.) Work in connection with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork approach to the ministries of the church. Qualifications:
Must embrace Christian discipline and Global Methodist doctrine and theology. Bachelor's degree is preferred but not required. Must have vision and demonstrated ability to plan, develop, coordinate, manage and implement a youth ministry. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills. Must possess a proven ability to work effectively with church and community youth, diverse individuals, parents and teams of volunteers. Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving record sufficient to qualify to drive church vehicles.
Pay:
$40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
