Job Summary:
The Staff Chaplain PRN provides culturally sensitive, trauma-informed emotional, spiritual, and ethical support to patients, their families, and staff. This position ensures that the religious and spiritual needs of all individuals within the JPS Health Network are met.
Essential Job Functions & Accountabilities:
Assesses patient and family spiritual needs and assists families in using their faith in dealing with illness, trauma, and stress; visits newly admitted patients and patients with special requests in assigned areas; visits critical care waiting areas each day; follows up with patients from previous visits when appropriate. Participates in maintaining proper administrative procedures for the department, following institutional policy. Tracks spiritual care activities to communicate with other department members and reports to the department/institution using the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system and other departmental reporting tools. Assists in coordinating clergy and pastoral visits from the religious community. Participates in the department's plan for ongoing quality improvement and compliance. Educates patients and their families about Advance Directives, advising them on understanding documents related to their healthcare, such as Living Wills and Medical Power of Attorney (MPOA). Leads and documents all aspects of decedent care and morgue management. Displays comprehensive knowledge of all pertinent policies and procedures related to spiritual care and ethics responsibilities. Responds appropriately to ethics consults and, when necessary, partners with other knowledgeable ethics team members to develop a plan of care. Assesses staff needs and offers appropriate interventions. Collaborates with new team members to facilitate a smooth and effective onboarding process. Engages in other duties as needed to further the mission of Spiritual Care & Ethics. Job description is not an all-inclusive list of duties and may be subject to change with or without notice. Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
A Master's degree (MA, MS, MBA) or equivalent in Divinity; Theology; Pastoral Care; Religious Education from an accredited college or university. 4 units of Clinical Pastoral Education 1 plus years of experience as a healthcare, hospice, or military chaplain.
Preferred Qualifications:
2 plus years of experience as a healthcare, hospice, or military chaplain. Eligible for board certification with the Association of Professional Chaplains, the National Association of Catholic Chaplains, the Spiritual Care Association, or the National Association of Jewish Chaplains. Education and/or experience in behavioral health. Bilingual/multi-lingual skills. Healthcare Ethics Consultant-Certified (HEC-C) certification.
