Divinity Full Job Description Position Summary:
The Elementary Associate Pastor leads the elementary ministry with spiritual direction, clear vision, and hands-on oversight. They shape Gospel-centered environments where kids deepen their faith, families feel cared for, and volunteers are trained and empowered to serve well. This role oversees 100+ volunteers and shepherds 500+ kids every weekend and provides spiritual leadership, discipleship, team development, and ministry alignment. This role works closely with the Kids Pastor to bring the broader Kids Ministry vision to life and carry out the Church's mission through discipleship, teaching, and spiritual leadership of children and families. Spiritual Leadership & Pastoral Care:
Develop engaging ministry environments and strong small group leadership to support kids' spiritual growth Minister to and empower parents to be the primary spiritual leaders in their children's lives Minister to and empower kids to take next steps in their faith journey Align the elementary ministry to the vision and direction of the overall Kids Ministry in collaboration with the Kids Minister Own day-to-day spiritual leadership, discipleship, and volunteer development for elementary-aged kids Oversee scheduling, planning, and ministry organization Volunteer Leadership Recruit, train, schedule, and care for volunteers serving in 1st-6th grade Build healthy, dependable volunteer teams for Sundays and special events Develop leaders and coaches who can support classrooms and small groups Clearly communicate expectations, schedules, and ministry goals Foster a culture where volunteers feel equipped, valued, and excited to serve Maintain accurate volunteer, attendance, and safety records
Sunday & Event Ministry Execution :
Ensure Sunday environments run smoothly, safely, and with excellence Coordinate volunteer coverage and classroom readiness for weekly services Edit and prepare small group curriculum to ensure it is clear, engaging, and ready for volunteer leaders each week Plan and oversee the execution of special events, seasonal experiences, and church-wide initiatives Troubleshoot and problem-solve in real time during services and events
Teaching & Worship Collaboration :
Teach on Sundays as needed (not primary teaching responsibility) Ensure teaching and worship experiences are engaging, age-appropriate, and aligned with ministry goals
Qualifications:
Knowledge and Skills:
A growing, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ Passion for kids ministry and volunteer leadership Strong organizational, communication, and people skills Excellent communication, interpersonal, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills Ability to recruit, develop, and motive a team Handling confidential matters with integrity Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and complaints Flexible, receptive to direction and efficient at managing multiple projects Ability to plan and execute ministry events Knowledge of child safety, risk management, and compliance procedures
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university required (ministry, biblical studies, or related field preferred) Minimum of 5 consecutive years' experience in Kids Ministry at a single church, demonstrating long-term commitment and leadership stability Ordained, commissioned, or licensed pastor/minister preferred (or willingness to pursue credentialing)
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods Proficiency in typing and using office equipment Capability to lift and carry items up to 25 pounds Ability to work nights and weekends as needed
