This suburban, denominationally unaffiliated (formerly United Church of Christ), doctrinally mainstream congregation has a traditional to blended worship style with 70-80 in average Sunday attendance. We are involved with several community organizations and ministries, such as Food Pantry, Bon Secours Care-A•Van, Girl Scouts, etc. A college or seminary degree is required. JOB DESCRIPTION FOR PASTOR BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN CHURCH
Bethlehem Christian Church Mission Statement:
To be a lifelong source of spiritual guidance through public worship and Christian instruction; to be a witness to God's saving grace; and to express God's love throughout the community and the world.
Job Responsibilities:
▪ Preparing and delivering sermons. Biblical insight and discernment with a commitment to scripture as final authority. ▪ Plan and lead worship services for the congregation, including the celebration of ordinances (Sacraments of baptism and Holy Communion) of the church. ▪ Oversee, direct and guide the spiritual growth of the membership, including the spiritual development and growth of the youth of the church. ▪ Regularly call on the sick and shut-in. ▪ Officiate at weddings, funerals and baptisms. ▪ Perform administrative duties related to office, staff, and property necessary in coordination of the ongoing life and ministry of the church. ▪ To provide counseling as needed and as time allows. ▪ Serve as a resource person for church groups. ▪ Work with the various boards and committees, as time allows to assist them in performing their assigned tasks. ▪ Highly rational and approachable. ▪ Collaborating with choir leaders to integrate music into services and assisting with community outreach. ▪ Serve as Ex Officio Member to all church boards and committees. ▪ Attend Church Council, Church Conference, Deacon Board and Board of Christian Education meetings. ▪ Follow the safety procedures of the church. Job Qualifications ▪ Master's Degree in Divinity is preferred or equivalent degree from an accredited seminary school. Expectations and Accountability ▪ Strong moral character to give a good religious example to the congregation. ▪ Ability to keep information private when working with congregation members to better counsel and comfort church members in times of crisis; respect a congregation member's privacy during and after pastoral counseling. ▪ Background check will be required prior to hire: reference checks will be conducted. Upon selection and prior to signing a contract, you will be asked to provide personal, professional and ministry-related references. ▪ Reports to Deacon Board ▪ An annual review (or exit interview) will be conducted each June. This review will serve as a basis for offering renewal of your contract. ▪ As a leader and representative of BCC, there should be evidence of continued growth in your personal relationship with Christ, a maintaining the highest standards of integrity as a leader. Regular corporate church worship service attendance is expected, as well as promoting the core values and the mission of the church on a personal level.
