At Sister José Women's Center, we provide safety, dignity, and hope to women experiencing homelessness in Tucson. We are seeking an experienced and dependable Overnight Shelter Monitor to help create a calm, supportive, and trauma-informed environment for guests during overnight hours. This role is ideal for individuals with experience working overnight in behavioral health, crisis services, residential treatment, shelters, group homes, healthcare, or other human services settings. Every shift offers the opportunity to support women during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. What You'll Do As an Overnight Shelter Monitor, you will work closely with your teammates to ensure the safety, comfort, and well-being of guests throughout the night.
Responsibilities include:
Building positive, respectful relationships with guests using trauma-informed and person-centered approaches Maintaining a safe environment by enforcing Center policies consistently and compassionately Monitoring guest areas, including indoor spaces and the outdoor patio De-escalating conflicts and serving as a calm, supportive presence during challenging situations Documenting incidents, observations, and overnight activities in program logs Supporting the cleanliness and organization of the Center Completing laundry and preparing the facility for daytime operations Restocking supplies for the day program Helping maintain a quiet, restful environment during sleeping hours (10:00 p.m. - 6:00 a.m.) Preparing and serving a simple early morning breakfast, including coffee, oatmeal, cereal, and eggs What Makes You Successful You are someone who: Remains calm and professional during stressful situations Has experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, substance use disorders, or trauma Uses strong communication and de-escalation skills Works well independently while collaborating effectively with a team Exercises sound judgment and maintains healthy boundaries Can prioritize multiple responsibilities in a dynamic environment Is dependable, observant, and able to remain awake, alert, and engaged throughout the entire shift Minimum Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age High school diploma or GED equivalent Minimum of two years of work experience Ability to work overnight shifts consistently Preferred Qualifications Experience in behavioral health, homeless services, crisis intervention, residential treatment, healthcare, or a related field Knowledge of trauma-informed care and de-escalation techniques Experience documenting incidents and maintaining accurate records CPR, First Aid, or behavioral health certifications are a plus Physical Requirements Ability to lift and carry up to 20 pounds occasionally Ability to walk, stand, and move throughout the facility during the shift Why Sister José Women's Center?
