The Summer Camp Assistant will join a collaborative team responsible for the holistic success of the 5-day immersive Worship Arts Lab. Working under the guidance of AWI leadership within the College of Arts, Humanities, Sciences, and Theology, this team balances residential oversight with creative mentorship. The summer camp assistant will ensure a safe, organized, and spiritually enriching environment for junior high and high school participants and their adult mentors. This position is a temporary part-time position and is contingent on available grant funding. Required Education Bachelor's degree preferredPreferred Majors:
Preference may be given to students with degrees in Music, Theology, Christian Ministries, Worship Arts, Psychology, Education, or related Humanities disciplines Required Experience Demonstrated experience in youth mentorship, camp counseling, or artistic leadership. Ability to facilitate group dialogue and provide spiritual and practical encouragement. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills with the ability to manage residential logistics. A collaborative mindset and a commitment to the intersection of worship ministry and the arts. Primary Duties/ Essential FunctionsStudent Mentorship & Community Building:
Serve as a primary role model, counselor, and source of encouragement for all program participants. Facilitate small group reflections or devotionals to help students process daily artistic and biblical teachings. Actively engage with participants during non-instructional time—including meals and recreational blocks—to foster a sense of community and belonging. Recognize individual student talents and interests, directing them toward opportunities (such as Artist's Showcases and Workshops) to build self-confidence and agency. Residential Oversight & Safety Work closely with University staff to create a warm, welcoming housing experience in the residence halls. Assist with essential housing logistics, including orientation, room check-in/check-out procedures, and the opening/closing of facilities. Ensure student safety by conducting nightly room checks and enforcing all camp conduct policies and curfews. Serve as a visible resource for participants regarding campus directions, facility usage, and general questions. Administrative & Professional Expectations Participate in all mandatory AWI meetings, Student Council sessions, and training events before, during, and after the camp. Communicate promptly with the Event Director(s) regarding any medical situations or emergencies. Maintain accurate daily electronic timekeeping and uphold punctual attendance as required by the supervisor. Perform other duties as assigned to support the collective success of the Summer Camp Assistant team. Mental Demands In agreement with the purpose and goals of Azusa Pacific University in providing a Christian-based higher education for its students. Physical Demands Intermittent sitting and standing. Requires keyboard and 10-key work. Extensive telephone usage. Ability to lift, pull, grasp, bend and reach. Ability to lift up to 20 lbs. Visual Demands Computer monitor and reading. Environment Pleasant office, comfortable temperatures. Multiple conversations and transactions occurring simultaneously. Technologies Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel. Compensation Grade 5: $16.90 to $18.92 is the hourly compensation for this role and reflects what Azusa Pacific University reasonably expects to pay for this position. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications, experience, and internal equity. In addition to compensation, APU offers a competitive benefits package.
