Position Summary The Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (ARLC) is a live-in paraprofessional of the Office of Residential Life who reports directly to the Residential Life and Deputy Title IX Coordinator. The Assistant Residential Life Coordinator (ARLC) 's primary role is to assist with the administration and supervision of one of the residence areas, housing approximately 150 undergraduate students. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the daily functioning and management of the residence area that they have been assigned, community development, co-supervising staff, educational discipline, programming, crisis intervention, administrative organization, and facilities/operational management. The ARLC will assist with staff selection, training, and student leadership and development.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Co-supervise 12-15 Resident Assistants assigned to the residence area (5 RAs first-year area, 7 RAs for upperclassmen) Participates in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of Resident Assistants Attends and participates in all in-service training for staff and assists in creating and implementing this training Responsible for establishing and maintaining community relations with students living in the residence halls through individual contacts and group interaction Provides leadership and support for staff and student programming efforts within their assigned residence and acts as a resource person and referral agent and advises students regarding personal, educational, behavioral, and residence hall concerns Forwards and follows up with Maintenance Request Orders and is responsible for being familiar with issues and concerns in their residence area Participates in rotating on-campus duty responsibilities in supervising the campus on weekends, weeknights, vacation periods, and during emergencies, as requested Responsible for explaining and enforcing departmental and campus policies Attends and participates in regularly scheduled professional staff and student staff meetings and individual supervision with the Residential Life and Deputy Title IX Coordinator and other members of the professional staff Host one program per semester Q ualifications and
Education:
Flexibility and strong organizational skills; student-focused and customer service-oriented; strong verbal and written communication skills; and computer efficiency. Ability to exercise sound judgment, set priorities, and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Candidates must demonstrate leadership, communication skills, community development skills, and a commitment to Albertus Magnus College's liberal arts mission. A positive attitude and a sense of humor are key. Willingness to work with a team and accept various levels of responsibility. Must possess a Bachelor's degree and be enrolled as a full-time degree-seeking graduate student at Albertus Magnus College and will maintain good academic standing. If not enrolled in an Albertus graduate program at the time of application, you must be enrolled by the time of hire. Must hold a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Experience working as a Resident Assistant or with Resident Assistants is preferred. If no experience, then must explain in cover letter how the discipline from the Bachelor's degree or future graduate degree at Albertus will aid them in success to work with Resident Assistants. Must have the ability to work well with others and the desire to work in a student-centered environment.
Work Schedule Requirements:
Approximately 20 office hours per week during normal business hours. 40 Hour work schedule during RA training and move-in, Fall and winter. Occasional nights and weekends will also be required. Must participate in 24/7 on-call rotation for a week at a time. Assistant Residential Life Coordinators must also be available if needed for on-call responsibilities during holidays and other academic breaks and must be available for summer training, winter training, opening and move-in, staff meetings, Homecoming, Convocation, Graduation, and other major department or collegewide events.
