Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM), with headquarters in Birmingham, Alabama, is a group of student housing professionals focused exclusively on the management of housing communities owned by non-profits and/or highly affiliated with a university.
Summary:
The Resident Assistant (RAs) are live-in student staff committed to the personal and academic success of residents within the community. The Resident Assistant position will provide administrative assistance with Residence Life, Facilities, Operations, and provide on-call emergency services. This will require participating in and supporting community operations (i.e., move-in, move-out, facility tours, and turn).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Community Development:
Identifyyour residents and know where they live within the first three weeks of the semester. Notify supervisor of roommate conflictsimmediatelyandassistwith roommate mediation sessions/ contracts Be available to residents andmaintaina highlevelof visibility in the buildings and community. Encourage residents to take responsibility for incidents and events in the community. Maintain a positive building community through open communication and programming. Identifyandassistresidentswithpersonal, academic, wellness, or other special issues. Respond and report behavior that is inappropriate / discriminatory / harassing in nature (racial, ethnic, religious, ability, gender, and/or sexual identity).
Safety and Security:
Interpret and enforcecommunity andinstitutionregulations and policies. Learn and implement building-wide emergency response procedures. Complete andsubmitIncident Reports as wellasduty logs following each duty shift. Respond to situations needing attention. Observe residents whoidentifyemotional, relationship, psychological,academicor social problems. Intervene appropriately or report as needed.
Programming:
Coordinate and completesocial or educational programs oncea monthwhich followsprogramming curriculum. Encourage and involve residents to develop and implement programs. Complete andsubmita Program Proposal and flyer for program by given deadline. Evaluate and complete Program Evaluation within 24 hours of program completion.
Facility Management:
Assist with room condition assessments prior to Move-In and after Move-Out each semester. Assist with the opening and closing of the buildings. Conduct health,safety,and maintenance inspections each semester and follow-up accordingly. Report maintenance concerns for your floor and the buildings. Complete other facility management responsibilities as assigned.
Administrative:
Participate in training and administrative tasks which occur prior to classes beginning and after classes end. Maintain confidentialityat alltimes . Perform administrative duties in a thorough andtimelymanner, including, but not limited to incident reports, occupancy checks each semester, damage billing, surveys, and reporting of maintenance issues. Participate in RAselection, Move-in/Move-out, RA Training, any Open Houses, Homecoming and other events as assigned. Attend all in-services, meetings, and events as assigned. This willgenerally includebi-weekly meeting with supervisor and weekly staff meetings. Front Desk /
Office Responsibilities:
Answer incoming office calls professionally. Distribute resident packages, as needed. Assistresidents with lock-outs and work order requests. Adhere to employment schedule and dress code. Enforce policies and procedures of the community including campus,stateand federal laws/regulations. Other tasks as assigned.
Duty:
Staff coverage/duty will berequiredduring academic calendar break periods (holidays and extended time) Participate in an on-call duty rotation with RA staff after business hours and on weekends (requires walking through all buildings and holding/responding to a duty cell phone overnight).
Qualifications:

Maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA. Must have livedon campusfor at least one semester. Maintain full-time enrollment and good standing withSt Johns River State College. Demonstrateproficiencyin verbal communication. Possess strong customer service skills. Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills. The noise level is usually moderate. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Resident Assistants receive a studio apartment (valued at $1,000 per month) for the duration of their employment. This is not employment agreement.
