Behavioral Health Program(s): ReLeaf - Is a transitional housing program providing trauma-informed, no-cost housing and wraparound support services for survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and community violence across Southern Illinois. This program fills a critical regional gap by offering safe, flexible housing, and individualized case management to help survivors achieve long-term stability.
Immediate Supervisor:
Program Manager (once hired) in the intrum, Program Director -
Daniel Hyson Hours of Work:
Full-time 40 hours/ week. Crisis sitter on-call rotation.
FLSA Classification:
Non-exempt Residential Specialist Minimum Qualifications :
High School Diploma or equivalent. Qualifies as a Rehabilitative Services Associate (RSA).
Residential Specialist Special Requirements:
Must be 21 years of age or older to drive agency vehicle; maintains a valid driver's license and vehicle liability insurance; operates agency vehicles and personal vehicles while driving for agency business in a safe and lawful manner at all times; maintain First Aid & CPR certification; must complete required registry clearances and criminal fingerprint background checks; schedules evening or weekend hours, as necessary; participates in crisis sitter on-call rotation.
Residential Specialist Skills & Competencies:
Knowledge of behavioral health conditions and effective treatment strategies. Proficient in using de-escalation techniques and responding to crises. Strong documentation, communication, and interpersonal skills. Commitment to trauma-informed principles. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic crisis intervention and conflict resolution techniques. Excellent written, oral, visual, and non-verbal communication skills. Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines as assigned. Residential Specialist j ob duties include, but not limited to: Provide on-site, trauma-informed support to residents at the communal living facility, ensuring a safe, structured, and supportive environment. Monitor and promote client safety, including responding to crises, de-escalating situations, and following established safety protocols. Assist residents with daily living activities, including developing routines, maintaining hygiene, budgeting, meal preparation, and other independent living skills. Support clients in accessing basic needs, including food, clothing, hygiene items, and transportation. Coordinate with the Case Manager to reinforce service plans, support client goals, and communicate changes in client needs or behaviors. Observe and document client interactions, incidents, and progress in accordance with agency, VOCA, and ICJIA requirements. Assist with maintaining the cleanliness, organization, and overall upkeep of the facility. Support transportation needs for clients as appropriate, including facilitating access to appointments, employment, and community resources. Reinforce program expectations, house guidelines, and promote a respectful, community-oriented living environment. Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training to support effective service delivery. Assist with program operations and coverage as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Participate in on-call rotation to support crisis sitter needs at Deaconess Union County Hospital. Ensure services are delivered in a trauma-informed, client-centered manner that promotes safety, dignity, and self-sufficiency.
