Campus, ILLINOIS Summary The Community Assistant is a 20 hour per week student staff member with the Office of Student Engagement and Residence Life focusing on retention efforts in campus residence halls. The Community Assistant will focus on the areas of Community and Belonging, Academic Readiness, Financial Preparedness, and Wellness. The Community Assistant position will focus primarily on the retention efforts set forth in the Kreischer Blueprint, which outlines the retention plan for Kreischer Hall. While not a live-in position, the CA plays a key role in fostering a supportive community environment. CAs focus on proactive student outreach, coordinating retention-based programming efforts, and collaborating with campus partners on the various retention efforts outlined in the Blueprint. Essential Functions The specific and unique responsibilities of the position are negotiated between the Community Assistant and Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Residence Life. The focus of this work will include student outreach and coordinating retention efforts for Kreischer Hall as outlined in the Kreischer Blueprint. Typical responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Conduct intentional outreach to residential students in Kreischer to provide early and ongoing support Serve as a peer resource by connecting students with campus resources and opportunities. Assist students in navigating personal, academic, and professional challenges by making appropriate referrals to staff and resources. Engage with students through active, active-passive, and passive strategies and initiatives. These may include hosting programs, tabling in lobbies, knocking on residential doors, hosting office hours in common spaces, and more. Serve as a liaison between Residence Life and campus partners. Support University, Student Success Strategies and Initiative, and Office of Student Engagement and Residence Life initiatives. Assist with designing and creating visual engagement opportunities including newsletters, bathroom postings (similar to Stall Talks), and bulletin boards. Attend weekly Community Assistant staff meetings and bi-weekly 1:1s with supervisor. Hold regular office hours in-building Assist with tracking and monitoring outreach lists and student follow-up related to student retention and engagement efforts. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate academic proficiency (minimum of 2.5 cum GPA), be in good judicial standing with the University at the time of application and throughout the term of employment. Candidates should have strong interpersonal and written communication skills. Community Assistants should be knowledgeable about campus resources and understand how to utilize online resources to located additional campus resources and opportunities. Community Assistants must be able to serve as a peer resource and be a positive representative of Student Engagement and Residence Life when interacting with students, campus partners, and community stakeholders. Additional Information In addition to the hourly compensation of $12.25 per hour, Community Assistants will also receive $150 in Falcon Dollars to assist with community engagement strategies through use of the Sundial.
