POSITION PURPOSE

The Creating Pathways and Access for Student Success™ (CPASS) Foundation was created to attract, encourage, educate, guide, and increase the number of promising, Illinois students in science, technology, engineering, math, and medicine (STEMM) related professions. We are committed to providing a holistic educational foundation and exclusive access to career development resources for students to persist in STEMM careers. The CPASS Foundation's STEMM Scholars Academy is a five-week, immersive summer experience designed to inspire and prepare high school students to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Medicine (STEMM). Hosted on partner college campuses, including Lewis University, The Chicago School, and the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry—the Academy provides Scholars with a unique opportunity to live and learn in a collegiate environment. Scholars engage in rigorous academic courses in math, science, English language arts, and social justice, complemented by hands-on, project-based STEMM workshops and college preparation sessions. Beyond academics, the program emphasizes mentorship, career exploration, and personal growth through networking events with STEMM professionals of color, industry site visits, and year-round academic and college readiness support. Each summer builds upon the last, allowing Scholars to return for up to three consecutive years as they deepen their skills, strengthen their academic foundation, and expand their professional networks—all at no cost to participants. Position Overview The CPASS Foundation is seeking dedicated and compassionate Residential Coordinators (RCs) to join our summer team in support of the STEMM Scholars Academy. Residential Coordinators play a critical role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and holistic development of Scholars while fostering a positive, inclusive residential community through daily mentorship, supervision, and engagement in workshops and community-building activities. This is a seasonal, live-in, on-campus position in which Residential Coordinators support residential programming seven days per week in alignment with the Academy's schedule. RCs provide direct supervision during morning routines, evening programming, and overnight hours, and may be designated as on-call during weekday academic programming to support operations and respond to emergencies. During the first two weeks of the Academy, some Residential Coordinators may support Scholars across multiple partner locations, while others remain based at Lewis University to ensure consistent on-campus residential coverage. During Weeks 3-5, all Residential Coordinators are based at Lewis University and support residential programming, evening and weekend activities, and campus-based operations. Evening and weekend programming focuses on STEMM enrichment, college preparation, mental health, wellness, and social justice. Residential Coordinators support Scholar success through daily mentorship, active supervision, and engagement in workshops, wellness activities, and community-building events. Residential Coordinators work under the overall supervision of the Program Director and collaborate closely with Lead Residential Coordinators, who provide day-to-day guidance and operational coordination. RCs are expected to demonstrate strong cultural competence, effective communication skills, and the ability to build positive, professional relationships with ethnically and culturally diverse youth and staff. Successful candidates are proactive, dependable, and adaptable, with the ability to manage conflict, respond to emergencies, problem-solve effectively, and contribute to a safe, structured, and empowering residential environment that supports Scholar growth and academic success.

$4,700.00 (Compensation will be adjusted/prorated for any missed hours, days, or early termination of the assignment).

Scholars Academy:

Role and Responsibilities:

Program Oversight Scholar Supervision & Safety:

Directly supervise high school Scholars (minors) in residence and during program activities, ensuring their safety, well-being, and adherence to program expectations at all times.

Program Facilitation:

Facilitate daily residential programming, including evening and weekend activities, workshops, and community-building events, and support on-campus and off-site programming as assigned.

Event Facilitation:

Lead and actively facilitate academic-adjacent and residential events, including wellness sessions, study halls, workshops, and community activities, in alignment with program goals and guidance from program leadership.

Administrative Responsibilities:

Complete required documentation accurately and on time, including attendance logs, incident reports, surveys, and scheduling-related tasks.

Team Collaboration:

Communicate consistently and collaborate with Lead Residential Coordinators, academic staff, and operations staff to ensure smooth program delivery and continuity of care for Scholars.

Professional Representation:

Build and maintain positive, professional relationships with Scholars, staff, and university personnel while representing the CPASS Foundation with professionalism and integrity.

Residential Program Support Residential Curriculum Implementation:

Implement the residential curriculum with fidelity to program goals, facilitating activities that promote Scholar engagement, accountability, and community building.

Safety & Well-Being Enforcement:

Enforce safety protocols, behavioral expectations, and residential policies consistently, and respond appropriately to incidents, concerns, or emergencies.

Scholar Conduct Management:

Address Scholar conduct issues in the moment when appropriate, document concerns, and escalate to Lead Residential Coordinators or program leadership as needed.

Incident Documentation & Follow-Up:

Accurately document, report, and follow up on incidents in accordance with CPASS Foundation and university policies and procedures.

Health & Safety Compliance:

Adhere to all CPASS Foundation and university health and safety requirements, including applicable public health, vaccination, and emergency procedures. Work Schedule & Coverage Expectations Residential programming operates seven days per week, with structured coverage requirements to ensure Scholar safety, supervision, and program continuity. Lead Residential Coordinators (LRCs) support both direct coverage and operational leadership, with responsibilities varying slightly by program phase. Each residential team member will have 1 day off per week as defined by the Program Director. Residential Overnight Coverage Residential overnight coverage operates on a rotating nightly structure to ensure continuous Scholar safety and rapid response. One residential staff member is designated each night as overnight coverage, with all residential staff participating in this rotation throughout the five-week Academy. Staff assigned to overnight duty are not required to return to active duty until the following afternoon. Detailed schedules will be provided during training. Overnight Responsibilities The overnight coverage RC serves as the primary point of contact for all overnight matters and must remain reachable, responsive, and physically present in the residence halls throughout the overnight period.

Responsibilities include:

Conduct hourly hall checks between 11:00 PM and 4:00 AM Serve as the primary point of contact for Scholars during overnight hours for both low- and high-risk concerns Act as the first point of contact for any residential emergency outside of standard campus protocol Assess situations and determine appropriate next steps, including escalation to the Program Director and/or designated leadership as needed Ensure all overnight incidents are properly documented and that follow-up communication is completed as required All residential staff receive training on emergency procedures prior to program start. Saturday & Sunday Coverage Expectations Residential programming operates all day on weekends. All Residential Staff (RCs and LRCs) are scheduled for full-day coverage, including morning routines, daytime activities, evening programming, and nighttime supervision. Weekend schedules emphasize continuous Scholar supervision, community-building activities, and off-campus programming as applicable. LRCs provide on-site leadership throughout the day and evening to support staff, manage operations, and respond to emergent needs. Overnight Presence Requirement Residential Staff are expected to remain on campus overnight in the dorms each day to support Scholar supervision and safety, except on their designated day off. Responsibilities during this time period are based on the overnight coverage schedule. Role Clarity & Flexibility Lead Residential Coordinators (LRCs) are scheduled for daytime leadership coverage during academic hours and transition into residential evening and nighttime coverage as needed. Evening LRC presence (6:00-9:00 PM) is based on program needs and is not required daily. Saturday & Sunday Coverage Expectations Residential programming operates all day on weekends. All Residential Staff (RCs and LRCs) are scheduled for full-day coverage, including morning routines, daytime activities, evening programming, and nighttime supervision. Weekend schedules emphasize continuous Scholar supervision, community-building activities, and off-campus programming as applicable. LRCs provide on-site leadership throughout the day and evening to support staff, manage operations, and respond to emergent needs. Overnight Presence Requirement Residential Staff are expected to remain on campus overnight each day to support Scholar supervision and safety, except on their designated day off. Schedule Flexibility Notice Specific schedules and daily assignments may vary based on program needs, field trips, campus activities, or emergent situations. Coverage will always maintain required supervision ratios.

Preferred Qualifications & Competencies Education:

Recent college graduate or currently enrolled at a university or college as a rising junior or above. Desired field(s) of study: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Medicine, Education, Psychology, Social Work or related fields

Additional Skills:

Scholars Academy are required to be fully vaccinated and proof of vaccination must be submitted during onboarding and no later than the start of in-person duties and in accordance with CPASS Foundation and university partner health and safety protocols. Vaccination is a condition of service. Mandatory Vaccination Requirement All Residential Team members must be fully vaccinated against the following diseases, with no exemptions or accommodations permitted (medical, religious, or otherwise), due to the shared residential environment and the health and safety needs of Scholars and staff: Measles, Mumps, and Rubella (MMR) Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis (Tdap) Meningococcal disease (Meningitis)

COVID-19

Ongoing Safety Requirements Staff must also adhere to all COVID-19 and health/safety precautions and procedures established by CPASS Foundation and the host university throughout in-person programming to ensure a safe and healthy environment for Scholars and staff. Physical and Miscellaneous Requirements Position requires walking, sitting, and standing day to day. Climbing stairs, running, and participation may be required during community activities. Lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. of supplies may be required. Interest or skills in sports, yoga, art/expression, or wellness activities are a plus and may be incorporated into Scholar engagement programming. Performs other duties as assigned. Performance Metrics Consistent, high-quality supervision and facilitation of residential programming, ensuring Scholar safety, well-being, and engagement at all times. Effective facilitation and coordination of residential and academic-adjacent programming, including evening and weekend activities, with adherence to established safety and behavioral protocols. Strong collaboration and communication with residential, academic, and operations staff to support smooth program delivery and Scholar success. Timely, accurate, and thorough completion of required administrative, attendance, and incident documentation. Positive feedback from Scholars, staff, and program leadership regarding the residential experience, community environment, and overall program quality.
