Job Description

Subject to the policies and management direction established by the Vice President for Arts Education, the Resident Assistant (RA) is responsible for preparing residential halls and ensuring the safety and comfort of summer camp student arrivals throughout the camp experience. Resident Assistants must demonstrate strong leadership qualities, with impeccable attendance and commitment to Arts Education programming. They must be able to communicate and lead clearly and effectively in a friendly, high-energy, collaborative manner that inspires and motivates a community of young artist-citizens, parents, and Teaching Artists. Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Resident Assistant Job Responsibilities:
Assists summer intensive participants with transition to campus and residence hall life. Enforces residence hall rules and regulations, in accordance to NJPAC Arts Education program policies. Remains available to residents while on-call each evening in residence halls. Assists in supervising residents for the duration of the participant's stay on campus including responding to complaints, requests, and emergencies. Submits daily reports regarding infractions, violations, and safety issues. Informs residents about MHI schedule updates, relevant campus and local activities during MHI's duration. Facilitates the resolution of disagreements between students; when necessary, elevates the concerns to the on-site supervisor. Manages orientation arrivals and check-in for students as they arrive and depart the dorm site, in according to security protocols. Attends and participates in staff meetings and training sessions. Participate in all check-ins and checkouts for each summer conference group assigned. Provide excellent customer service to all summer conference guests. Assist with preparing rooms and facilities for conference guests. Attend meetings as requested by the Resident Assistant Supervisor. Maintain a presence in the building and be available to students/guests. Positively represent the Department to all students, families, and guests during orientation and events.
Resident Assistant Qualifications/Skills:
Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to get along with residents of various cultures and backgrounds Strong problem-solving skills Excellent leadership and public speaking skills Proven organization and logistical skills Ability to respond to and assess urgent situations
Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements:
Current enrollment and good standing in bachelor's or graduate degree program Experience working with youth Experience living in on-campus housing Working knowledge of university and residence hall policies and procedures
