Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
: Provides peer support services as part of a multi-disciplinary team for individuals with mental illness and/or substance use disorder. Services focus on working with clients to enhance their recovery, assisting clients in developing self-regulation, interpersonal skills, and appropriate behavioral responses in residential and community settings. The CPRS facilitates activities that promote socialization, community integration, and the development of coping skills that reinforce successful relapse prevention and decision-making. CPRS staff assist clients with independent living skills, personal care, housekeeping, and daily routines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
: Essential functions are duties, which are essential or primary to the position or the reason the position exists. An individual must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. The Peer Recovery Supporter performs an integral role in carrying out the mission of The Counseling Center, Inc.
by performing the following duties:
Provides individualized, ongoing guidance, coaching and support to clients in the assigned location(s). Utilizes peer support strategies to assist clients in managing emotional distress, resolving interpersonal conflicts, and applying coping skills. Supports clients in processing behavioral incidents and developing alternative coping strategies to prevent recurrence and further promote recovery. Provides training in the use of personal and community resources. Supports the client in accessing community resources and services while building skills in navigation, communication, and independent functioning. Assists the client in increasing social support networks (relatives, friends, and/or significant others). Encourages and supports participation in recovery-oriented community support, including transportation and engagement in peer recovery meetings. Advocates on behalf of persons with behavioral health disorders, protects client rights, and assists in reducing stigma. Works in cooperation with other providers, family members, or significant others involved in the client's recovery plan. Attends agency staff meetings, conferences, and individual and group sessions and supervisions. Serves on designated committees as assigned. Attain established standards of productivity and quality. Documents clinically relevant observations, behaviors, and activities/services to inform the treatment team of client progress and needs. Observes rules of clinical confidentiality, both internally and with external agencies or persons. Understands client rights and associated policies and procedures. Participate in staff training and development. Always maintains professional standards and appearance. Observes their respective professional Code of Ethics and agency standards of conduct. Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, TRAINING, & EXPERIENCE
: Certified Peer Recovery Supporter in Ohio or ability to obtain successfully within 2 months of start date. High School Diploma or GED Personally lived experience of mental health and/or substance use disorder(s). Minimum 1 year of successful experience working as a Residential Support Services Specialist (RSS). Strong written and verbal communication skills. Attention to detail. Compassionate, caring, and ethical.
