POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Valid Louisiana Teaching or Ancillary Certification
Bachelor's degree or higher in education or related field required
Master's degree preferred
Minimum five years of successful experience in education preferred
School counseling experience preferred
Experience with attendance initiatives, MTSS, family engagement, student support services, and trauma-informed practices preferred
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with school leaders, staff, families, and community partners

JOB DESCRIPTION
I. Position Summary
The Attendance Improvement & Student Support Coordinator plays a critical role in improving student attendance, engagement, academic success, and overall well-being across Sabine Parish Schools. Aligned with the Louisiana Department of Education's Power of Presence framework and district priorities, this position serves as a district-level coordinator for attendance improvement strategy, student support systems, and early intervention efforts.
The Coordinator works collaboratively with school staff, families, district leadership, and community partners to reduce chronic absenteeism and truancy, strengthen family engagement, address barriers impacting school attendance, and support consistent implementation of district attendance initiatives across all schools. The position emphasizes proactive, restorative, and relationship-centered approaches that strengthen student connection to school while building school-level capacity for sustainable attendance improvement practices.
This position supports district efforts to operationalize statewide guidance into consistent district practices; monitor attendance, chronic absenteeism, and truancy trends; support schools in implementing tiered interventions; and coordinate student support efforts that promote positive student outcomes through prevention and early action rather than reactive punitive-driven approaches.
II. Attendance Systems Leadership
Support implementation of the Louisiana Department of Education's Power of Presence framework throughout the district
Assist in developing and maintaining district attendance procedures, tools, timelines, and intervention supports
Promote consistency in Tier I attendance messaging, Tier II interventions, and Tier III supports across all schools
Assist schools in aligning attendance practices with district procedures, state requirements, and the Power of Presence framework
Support district attendance initiatives designed to improve student engagement, daily attendance, and chronic absenteeism outcomes
III. Family & Student Attendance Support
Conduct outreach and engagement efforts with students and families experiencing attendance challenges
Support schools in implementing proactive, restorative, and tiered attendance interventions prior to formal truancy escalation, whenever appropriate
Participates in family outreach and engagement efforts, including community-based meetings or home visits when appropriate, safe, and aligned with district procedures
Assist schools in identifying barriers impacting attendance and coordinating supports for students and families
Support compassionate, strengths-based communication practices with families
Collaborate with school personnel to strengthen student connectedness, engagement, and school belonging
IV. Data Monitoring & Intervention
Monitor and analyze district and school-level attendance and chronic absenteeism data
Identify attendance patterns, trends, and students or subgroups requiring early intervention
Assist schools in using attendance data to drive student supports and intervention planning
Generate reports and provide attendance-related data support to district and school leadership
Support implementation of evidence-based attendance interventions and early warning practices
V. School Support & Capacity Building
Collaborate with principals, counselors, attendance clerks, social workers, teachers, and school attendance teams to strengthen attendance systems and student supports
Provide coaching and support for school attendance teams and intervention planning processes
Facilitate or support professional learning related to attendance improvement strategies, MTSS practices, trauma-informed approaches, and family engagement
Assist with development and refinement of district attendance-related procedures and practices
Stay current on best practices related to attendance improvement, student support services, and relevant educational guidance
VI. District Initiatives & Program Support
Support district initiatives related to student engagement, school climate, attendance improvement, and overall student success
Participate in district meetings, collaborative planning sessions, and cross-departmental initiatives related to student services and student support systems
Provides support for student-services-related monitoring activities and district initiatives, including selected Career and Technical Education (CTE) program support functions as assigned
VII. Other Duties
Maintain records and documentation related to assigned duties in accordance with district and state requirements
Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent, Director of Student Services, or designee
Is observed/evaluated according to district personnel evaluation procedures
