The Peace Advocate will engage youth in the neighborhoods, schools and be visible at many other places in the community where youth gather. He/she will model peace and teach nonviolence in the community while also seeking to link opportunity youth to an array of services through developed community partnerships utilizing trauma informed approaches in his/her outreach and case management practices.
Typical job responsibilities include:
- Work extensively in the community to develop networks and collaborative efforts to engage opportunity youth and offer resources and basic needs, referrals to services
- Develop individual service success/safety plans for all participants that identify barriers to success and create strategies for success with participants
- Transport participants to appointments, activities, jobs, or other relevant locations
- Work within the community as requested to provide mentoring, conflict resolution and case management services such as basic needs
- Make in person visits to schools, work, or other appropriate locations to follow up with participants
- Provide community presentations and training on program services and Conflict Resolution/Non-Violence Workshops for opportunity youth
- Engage in intensive street outreach and community engagement to prevent street violence and deter retaliatory acts through peace building in the community while providing resources and support to participants actively
- Recruit and retain participants by providing access to direct employment placements, employment/career skills training, information, resources, pro-social role modeling, and encouragement
- Attend community wide activities especially evenings/weekends as needed
- Plan, organize and facilitate groups to community/opportunity youth
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Over 21 years of age
- Valid driver's license and car insurance; Able to transport participants, drive to various locations within the community and around specific areas in the state per program requirements for program required meetings
- Familiarity with the Brockton community
- Bi-Lingual encouraged to apply!
- Available to work a flexible schedule if a program need arises, including nights and weekends
- Understand and relate to the needs of project participants of diverse ethnic, cultural, educational and socioeconomic backgrounds
