Job Description

The Women's Center is currently seeking a qualified candidate for a Shelter Residential Shift Counselor. Training and team supervision provided in a supportive and collaborative work environment that focuses on the growth and development of employees. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's Degree in Human Services related field preferred. Training and work history will be considered. Experience working with diverse populations preferred. Experience dealing with individuals in residential settings or crisis situations. Act 33/34/FBI Clearances upon hire.
GENERAL DUTIES
Responsible for participating in a shift schedule for a residential facility for domestic violence victims, homeless women, and their children. Works independently during some shifts. Provide empowerment based, client-centered crisis counseling, goal planning, and advocacy. Develop and facilitate self-care activities, educational groups, and workshops for shelter residents. Respond to 24-hour helpline and provide helpline callers with information and crisis intervention. Complete shelter intake and exit interviews during shift coverage.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Ability to go up and down 1 - 3 flights of stairs, including ability to carry food, cleaning, laundry, or other supplies up or down the stairs. Able to individually participate in light lifting of 20 - 25 pounds, including bending and stretching, and be able to work in cooperation with other staff to move/shift the position of furniture for cleaning and related purposes. Ability to engage in prolonged periods of standing or sitting while answering the helpline or participating in meetings or crisis work with survivors. Ability to hear and verbally respond to individuals calling the helpline and/or presenting in-person for services.
SALARY & BENEFITS
$21.42 an hour plus $1.50 shift differential; 40 hours a week Paid vacation, sick and personal time, including 5 days of vacation after 6 months; 12 Paid Holidays Medical, Dental and Vision eligibility on first day of employment, with low employee contribution rate of $30 per pay.
