Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children and youth, providing guidance, support, and mentorship in a positive and nurturing environment. This role involves fostering personal growth, encouraging educational development, and promoting social skills among youth participants. Duties Provide supervision and support to children and youth in various settings, including classrooms, camps, and daycare environments. Implement behavior management strategies to promote positive interactions and resolve conflicts. Assist in the development of educational programs that cater to the needs of individual students. Facilitate engaging activities that encourage teamwork, creativity, and personal development. Maintain a safe environment by adhering to first aid protocols and ensuring the well-being of all participants. Collaborate with parents, educators, and other professionals to support the holistic development of each child. Document progress and challenges faced by youth participants to tailor interventions effectively. Qualifications Experience working with children in settings such as childcare, tutoring, or sports coaching is essential. Strong classroom management skills to maintain a productive learning environment. Knowledge of childhood development principles and behavior management techniques. Familiarity with special education practices is a plus. First aid certification is preferred but can be obtained after hiring. Background in early childhood education or related fields is advantageous. Experience in Christian counseling or similar mentoring roles is desirable. Ability to engage children through various activities such as theater arts or sports coaching. 21+ Just to clarify—our Y on the Fly program has a home base in Richmond, TX (T.W. Davis YMCA) , and that's the location you're seeing for the interview. However, the position you applied for is where you would be assigned to work if hired.

We do hold our monthly trainings out of the Richmond office, and many staff choose to commute there only for those training sessions. Your day-to-day work, however, would be at the location you applied for.
