Job Description
Peer Services, Part time
Normal Work Hours/Days:
Varied schedule, generally Monday-Friday, 8 am - 4 pm Peer Services encourages and supports individuals with successful management of their mental health recovery. Peer Services supports individuals transitioning to more independent living or hospital discharge using four primary service interventions: Engagement in a personal, positive, supportive relationship with a peer Involvement in an array of Peer Support Meetings located both in the hospital, and in the community Linkage to a broad range of community-based service and natural supports Teaching community adjustment and wellness self-management skillsPRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS
The Peer Specialist provides intensive support through a personalized balance of social, recreational, skill teaching and linkage development services for individual match relationships As demonstrated by: Schedule of individual contacts of two to three hours with each person at least once per week Initiation of dialogue with each person about skills and supports during individual meetings once per week. Establishment of linkages that result in the persons active use of resources in the community. The Peer Specialist should be able to actively facilitate successful mutual support meetings.As demonstrated by:
Facilitation of peer/mutual support meetings in day programs and hospitals. Facilitation of peer/mutual support meetings in the community. Completion of meeting report forms and sign in sheets for each meeting. The Peer Specialist will perform travel and reporting responsibilities for match relationships.As demonstrated by:
Activity reports and travel forms One on one meetings with the team leader twice per month Completion of all documentation requirements for provided services, weekly Participation in mandatory Peer Services Team meetings and all scheduled training.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma or GED required. Motor vehicle Valid Alabama driver's license and driving record acceptable to agency automobile insurance carrier for inclusion on agency policy. If using personal vehicle must show and maintain car insurance equal to or in excess of the State of Alabama standards for automobile insurance coverage. Must attain Certification upon hire and maintain certification. Must demonstrate lived experience with Mental illness and be a role model to others pursuing recoveryKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Have demonstrated experience in using the power and potential of your own recovery story as a tool to educate and inspire peers and non-peer staff. Must be a good role model and be in active recovery for their own mental health challenges. Have the ability to convey a message of hope and recovery for people with mental health challenges.
