Provides supervision of Concession workers and supports recreational program activities and events. Trains and mentors staff in all aspects of concession operation, safety, and sanitary requirements, and coordinates the sale of food and beverages at the various SRPMIC recreation facilities. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.
Distinguishing Features :
The Recreation Coordinator I differs from the Recreation Coordinator II, by providing more of a supportive role with program activities and events and is entry level position. This position is eligible for progression requiring familiarity with the program and leveraging professional working relationships.
Essential Functions:

Supervision:
Assists with the supervision of concession staff to provide prompt and timely customer service. Assists with hiring training, scheduling, supervising and providing evaluation input on performance of concession staff. Provides regular feedback to concession worker of work performance or changes standard work procedures. Develops and maintains work schedules to ensure concession staffing is available to support special events and activities. Monitors and ensures all staff maintain the appropriate food handler's certifications. Trains concession workers on proper use of cash registers cash handling and cash storage procedures. 2.
Administration:
Assists in planning food service budget, monitors expenditures, reports program performance and assists with developing procedures for improved efficiencies. Assists with promoting class information and events related to food & beverage activities through social media, flyers, email blasts, brochures to help market programs. Collaborates with school districts, youth programs, Community members and other departments to coordinate and promote activities and events. Oversees all cash management and prepares cash and sales reports as needed. Reviews and verifies all sales receipts and ensures all revenue is properly accounted for. Verifies cash and receipts prior to starting and ending shift (changeover). 3.
Food Service Operation:
Organizes concession events, monitors and ensures concession operations are performed according to required procedures and sanitary requirements. Operates food truck, set-up and clean truck in preparation of next event. Coordinates food truck maintenance including scheduling of waste and fresh water disposals. Checks and ensures ample inventory of food and beverage to support scheduled concession events and activities. Assists with the set-up, supply and resupply of concession items and breakdown of concession stands as needed. Ensures all paperwork required to be reviewed and signed off each day pertaining to food safety and sanitation guidelines, and cleanliness inspections are completed. Ensures policy and procedure adherence for a shared use facility and ensure that all equipment available to the renter operates to all applicable health and safety standards. Follows proper sanitation guidelines during food preparation and packing purchased items. Submits requisition request for equipment, supplies, or repairs for equipment as needed. 2.
Customer Service :
Provides prompt and timely customer service. Answers customer inquiries and assists concession workers with resolving customer complaints to prevent operations from being impacted. 5.
Programming and Special Events :
Attends and aides in activities and events coordinated by the Recreation Department requiring concession services and/or food truck services. Assist with strategic and operational plans for special events Responsible for overseeing food & beverage activities at designated locations and public facilities. Includes setting up the food truck at the facility and area for special events, sports leagues, classes and any related tasks to assure success of the programs. 6.
Miscellaneous :
Performs other job related duties as assigned by Recreation Manager and/or Director.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of History, culture, laws, customs and traditions of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community. Knowledge of planning, coordinating and organizing concession activities for facilities and services. Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques. Knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision, training, and scheduling. Knowledge of state and local health regulations as they pertain to the operation and handling of food. Knowledge of food preparation procedures and practices. Knowledge of basic math. Skill planning daily concession services and work assignments. Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with staff, vendors and the general public. Skill with effective verbal and written communication. Ability to understand the community in relation to its recreation needs. Ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, and review the work of others. Ability to recruit, select, train, orientate, and evaluate seasonal employees. Ability to coordinate scheduling of facilities. Ability to operate office equipment including a personal computer, Microsoft Office applications, and other related software. Ability to effectively supervise multiple sites and assigned food and beverage personnel. Ability to coordinate food and beverage staff schedules and workflow. Ability to stand, sit, and/or walk for extended periods and expose to a variety of weather conditions. Ability to effectively respond to inquiries, complaints, and solve disciplinary problems effectively. Ability to communicate clearly and follow oral and written instruction. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds, able to lift and carry special, heavy equipment or other objects.
Minimum Qualifications Education and Experience:
A High School diploma or GED and one (1) year recreation related work experience with programming and coordinating structured and specialized recreational activities required.
Equivalency:
Any equivalent combination of experience and education that will allow the applicant to satisfactorily perform the duties of the job may be considered when filling the position.
Underfill Eligibility:
An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position will be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill. Special Requirements May be required to work outside normal business hours including flexible work hours, nights, weekends, holiday, and split shifts. Must successfully pass an extensive background/criminal background check including fingerprinting.
