  • Full-time Job Summary Join our dedicated team as a Peer Support Specialist within the Manzanita Unit at the Arizona State Prison Complex.
In this vital role, you will serve as a compassionate, understanding resource for incarcerated individuals, providing peer-led support that promotes mental health, behavioral well-being, and positive change. Your energetic and motivational approach will help foster a safe, supportive environment where individuals feel empowered to work toward recovery and personal growth. This paid position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference through crisis intervention, mentoring, and behavioral health support in a correctional setting. Duties Provide peer support and mentorship to incarcerated individuals, fostering hope and resilience through active listening and motivational interviewing techniques. Assist with crisis intervention and crisis management efforts to de-escalate situations and ensure safety for all staff and inmates. Support behavioral health initiatives by encouraging participation in mental health counseling programs and addiction recovery activities. Document interactions, progress notes, and incident reports accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems to ensure seamless communication within the care team. Collaborate with mental health professionals, social workers, and correctional staff to develop individualized support plans that address each individual's needs. Facilitate group activities focused on social skills development, addiction counseling, and emotional regulation to promote positive behavioral change. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all safety protocols while working in a correctional environment. Qualifications Prior experience or training in crisis intervention, crisis management, or behavioral health is highly desirable. Strong understanding of mental health counseling principles and addiction recovery strategies. Excellent mentoring skills with the ability to motivate others toward positive change. Knowledge of social work practices and familiarity with EHR systems for documentation purposes. Effective communication skills, including motivational interviewing techniques, active listening, and conflict resolution. Ability to work in a dynamic environment requiring patience, resilience, and professionalism. Certification or training in crisis intervention or behavioral health is a plus but not mandatory; willingness to obtain relevant certifications is encouraged.
