The LA County Board of Supervisors recently declared a local state of emergency for homelessness , and the County is working to revise and expand our response to help all who are affected. We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance abuse. The Department of Consumer and Business Affairs Community & Consumer Services Bureau is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Community Center Director II vacancies related to the homelessness crisis. Under the emergency order, applicants who meet all the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment. During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%. Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Community Center Director
II. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Directs center activities, including informational and referral services, and crisis intervention and emergency services. Develops and implements center objectives, policies, and procedures within the framework of the center's program objectives and the needs of the individual communities served. Plans, organizes, assigns, directs, and evaluates the work of center personnel. Plans, initiates, and coordinates specialized programs designed to meet community needs. Maintains public relations within the center's service area and participates in community activities and organizations in order to define community needs, promote development of service resources, and gain community support. Assists community organizations in establishing and coordinating services and resources and preparing grant proposals for private and government subsidies. Coordinates center programs with other County services and community resources such as schools, law enforcement agencies, and medical facilities. Assists in the formulation and interpretation of departmental policies as they related to the center's operation. Assists the department head in the identification of special problems and unmet needs in the community, and performs special assignments as directed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
TRAINING
AND EXPERIENCE
Four years' experience in a responsible administrative, supervisory, and consultative or staff capacity in the field of human services such as employment, social welfare, or community services. The required experience must have included active participation in community problems and analyzing and making recommendations for their solution. OR Two years' experience performing the duties of a Community Center Specialist II or its equivalent of higher OR One year's experience as a Community Center Director
I . LICENSE
A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
