Leadership Full Job Description Job Description:

The peer support specialist will be responsible for mentoring, and supporting participants in treatment, and encouraging them to complete their program and continue living a drug-free lifestyle. The peer support specialists will also use their lived experience with treatment and recovery from an SUD to connect with youth personally and become influential leaders in their lives. Population served females currently placed in a Short Term Residential Treatment program (STRTP) facility.

Responsibilities:

1. Serve as a role model and advocate for foster care

minors, sharing personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivation. 2. Foster trusting and supportive relationships with group home youth, actively listening to their concerns and providing empathetic guidance. 3. Conduct individual and group peer support sessions, utilizing evidence-based approaches to address challenges related to substance use and mental health. 4. Collaborate with the clinical team to develop personalized recovery plans for residents, incorporating peer support strategies and resources. 5. Through peer-led workshops and activities, assist residents in developing coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, and healthy lifestyle habits. 6. Provide practical assistance and referrals to community resources for housing, employment, education, and other essential needs. 7. Advocate for the needs and rights of residents within the program and the broader community, promoting de-stigmatization and acceptance of individuals in recovery. 8. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines in all interactions with residents and staff. 9. Participate in regular team meetings, case conferences, and training sessions to enhance professional development and program effectiveness. 10. Document resident interactions, progress, and outcomes by program policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

1. Lived experience with substance use recovery and a minimum of one year in sustained recovery. 2. A high school diploma or equivalent is required; additional education or certification in peer support, counseling, or a related field is preferred. 3. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse populations, particularly youth. 4. Knowledge of substance use disorders, mental health issues, trauma-informed care, and recovery-oriented practices. 5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with proficiency in active listening and empathy. 6. Ability to work with female youth housed in a Short-Term Residential Treatment Facility or Group home setting independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic environment. 7. Commitment to personal and professional growth, including ongoing education and training in peer support and related areas. 8. Understanding and commitment to ethical standards, boundaries, and confidentiality in peer support work. 9. Maintaining composure and professionalism in challenging situations, prioritizing resident safety and well-being. 10. Familiarity with community resources and social services available to individuals in recovery, with a willingness to network and collaborate for the benefit of residents.
