Part-Time Volunteer Coordinator Milo Foundation - Point Richmond, CA Part-Time | Non-Exempt About Milo Foundation At the Milo Foundation, every day is an opportunity to save lives. We are looking for an energetic, organized, and people-focused Volunteer Coordinator who is passionate about animals and thrives in a fast-paced, ever-changing nonprofit environment. Position Summary The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, and supporting the volunteers who make Milo's lifesaving work possible. This role is equal parts relationship-building, problem-solving, and organization. The ideal candidate enjoys working with people as much as they enjoy working with animals, can adapt quickly to changing priorities, and is excited to help create a positive and rewarding volunteer experience while ensuring volunteers have the tools and guidance needed to safely support Milo's mission. Essential Responsibilities Volunteer Recruitment & Engagement Recruit new volunteers through community outreach, events, social media, and partnerships. Conduct volunteer orientations and onboarding. Ensure volunteers complete required paperwork and training. Match volunteers with opportunities that fit their skills and interests. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and mission-driven volunteer culture. Recognize and celebrate volunteer contributions through appreciation programs and events. Scheduling & Coordination Create and manage volunteer schedules to meet the daily operational needs of the rescue. Coordinate volunteer coverage for adoptions, special events, fundraising activities, transport, kennel support, and community outreach. Maintain volunteer records, hours, and certifications. Communicate schedule updates and organizational needs in a timely manner. Training & Support Provide ongoing coaching and support to volunteers. Ensure volunteers understand Milo policies, safety procedures, and animal handling protocols. Work alongside department managers to identify volunteer needs and develop new volunteer opportunities. Address questions, concerns, and conflicts professionally and compassionately. Community Engagement Represent Milo Foundation professionally at community events. Help build relationships with schools, businesses, civic organizations, and community groups. Promote volunteer opportunities through outreach and recruitment efforts. Administrative Responsibilities Maintain accurate volunteer databases and documentation. Prepare reports on volunteer participation and engagement. Assist with volunteer communications, newsletters, and recognition programs. Support other administrative projects as needed. What We're Looking For Passion for animal welfare and nonprofit work. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. Highly organized with strong attention to detail. Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Positive, flexible, and solutions-oriented attitude. Ability to motivate, inspire, and lead volunteers. Comfortable working with diverse groups of people. Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office, Google Workspace. Experience with volunteer management systems is a plus. Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience coordinating volunteers, customer service, nonprofit programs, or community engagement. Previous experience working in an animal shelter, rescue, veterinary clinic, or nonprofit organization is preferred. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Ability to weekends, and special events. Physical Requirements Ability to walk, stand, bend, lift up to 40 pounds, and work both indoors and outdoors. Comfortable working around dogs and cats of varying sizes, breeds, temperaments, and medical conditions. Ability to safely handle animals following Milo protocols. Why Join Milo? $22.00 - $25.00 per hour
