$23.51/hour + DOE Summary The Peer Support Specialist provides recovery-focused peer support services as part of a multidisciplinary team serving individuals with substance use disorders. This role emphasizes empowering patients in their recovery journey through advocacy, coaching, and support. Services may be delivered individually or in group settings and are tailored to culturally diverse and socioeconomically disadvantaged populations. The Peer Support Specialist helps patients overcome barriers related to self-care, communication, decision-making, and navigating the healthcare system. This position works closely with Substance Use Navigators (SUNs), psychologists, grant teams, and Addiction Medicine Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). Essential Duties and Responsibilities Provide culturally responsive, individualized, and ongoing peer support, guidance, and coaching Deliver services at Incline Village Community Hospital (IVCH), Tahoe City, or Truckee locations as assigned Educate patients on personal and community resources Support development of formal and informal recovery support systems Assist patients in strengthening social networks (family, friends, community) Offer encouragement and support during times of crisis Advocate for patients' rights and work to reduce stigma related to substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions Collaborate with care teams, family members, and support systems in recovery planning Attend staff meetings, case conferences, medical appointments, and interdisciplinary team meetings as needed Maintain productivity standards and accurate documentation (billing under H0038 in 15-minute increments) Uphold strict confidentiality in accordance with all regulations and policies Understand and follow patient rights policies and procedures Participate in ongoing training, staff development, and committee work Maintain professional standards consistent with the Code of Ethics and Conduct Perform additional duties as assigned Adhere to the 17 core competencies outlined under SB 803 Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior. Complies with System policies and procedures. Other duties as may be assigned. Minimum Education/Experience No educational requirement and 6 months to 1 year relevant experience
Required Licenses/Certifications None Other Experience/Qualifications Required:
Medi-Cal Peer Support Specialist Certification within 6 months of hire.
