Job Description

Job Overview As an Animal Welfare Officer, you will play a crucial role in protecting animals, maintaining public safety and enforcing laws within the community. This position requires a dedicated individual who is committed to the humane treatment of animals, protecting the community, and ensuring the safety and well-being of pets and people. Position is 29-35 hours per week, with opportunity for full-time positions as they become available. Responsibilities Respond promptly to calls for service, emergencies, and incidents involving stray, injured, abused or dangerous animals. Enforce animal welfare and rabies control laws by issuing citations, corrections, warnings or filing criminal charges. Conduct thorough investigations, including gathering evidence and interviewing victims and witnesses. Write detailed reports documenting incidents, investigations, and enforcement actions. Provide immediate care and aid to animals in distress. Handle animals safely and humanely and transport securely to the shelter or veterinarian. Scan lost pets for microchips and canvas neighborhoods to return to owners. Proactively patrol assigned areas. Manage conflict situations effectively to de-escalate tensions and mediate a resolution. Educate the public on animal control, rabies and cruelty laws. Provide resources to help with compliance where appropriate. Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, first responders, and community organizations. Experience Ideal candidates will possess a combination of the following skills: Experience in law enforcement, public safety, emergency response, military service, veterinary technology, or animal care, behavior or handling is preferred. Knowledge of investigation processes. Strong leadership abilities with experience in conflict management. Strong report writing skills. Possess integrity, professionalism and solid work ethic. Able to deal firmly and courteously with the public. Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Office, email, internet, and data management systems. Minimum high school diploma or equivalent. College or equivalent work experience preferred. Valid driving license with no restrictions is condition of employment Clear criminal background report is condition of employment As a condition of hire you must obtain an Animal Welfare Officer certification. Training will be provided.
