  • This class is responsible for daily center operation, development and coordination of various community centers, including community organizing and outreach, volunteer recruitment; support and development of activities and programs, identifies program needs, monitors, and determines target audience for programs, oversees program development, monitors program timelines and goals, reviews program marketing and advertising efforts.
This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Performs a variety of administrative and professional tasks in support of assigned area of responsibility Oversees and coordinates Community Center Programs and events Implements and monitors social and youth programming goals and objectives Organizes and instructs individuals and groups in a variety of programs and activities inclusive of youth recreational and academic activities Coordinates volunteers at events, solicits assistance from volunteers; distributes information to participants and/or parents/guardians Coordinates Summer Camp, Afterschool Program, and various programs and activities Conduct and coordinate recreational and academic activities for youth Assist with Community Resource Center; scheduling events and being on-site for the various events, assist with set-ups and planning for events Serves as liaison with neighborhood associations, citizens, and volunteers Assists with set-up and clean-up of programs and events Assists with grant writing for various programs for youth and seniors Initiates and facilitates new team sports programs for various age groups in underserved communities Assists in community center rental process Performs other duties of a similar nature or level
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Training and Experience:
Associate's degree in Leisure Services, Recreation, Public Administration or a related field and two years of experience in community outreach, experience working with youth in a recreational or academic environment, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Driver's License Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs): Knowledge of recreational athletics Methods, techniques and practices of community centers for public recreation activities Interact effectively with the public, various agencies, and staff at all levels Adhere to program standards and objectives as outlined in standard recreational programs Work continually through the summer camp and afterschool program schedule Work flexible hours (to include nights and weekends) Deal with stressful conditions in a calm and professional manner Perform various job tasks in all weather conditions, primarily heat Maintain effective working relationships with peers, supervisors, and the public, especially children Work well with youth of all ages Administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as work processing, managing files, and records Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Emergency Management Responsibilities:
During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.
Physical Requirements:
Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
Medium Work:
Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
