Job Description

RSVP Coordinator Job Description Position:
Carroll County RSVP Volunteer Coordinator Report to:
RSVP Director General Job Summary:
35 hour per week position in Carroll County. Responsibilities include recruiting, screening, training, placing and supervising senior volunteers. Coordinator will be responsible specifically for the Reading Buddy Project, which involves placing volunteers to work with children with the goal of improving their reading skills; Speak-up! Project, which places volunteers in 5th grade classrooms implementing a student led public speaking program; Pen Pals, which engages volunteers with 3rd grade students in a letter writing exchange; capacity building and community involvement projects. Assist the Director in the placement of new volunteers. General offices duties as assigned.
Hours:
The coordinator will work 35 hours per week. Monday through Friday, hours between 8:00-4:00 PM. One hour unpaid lunch break. Some events may require additional hours and the work schedule will be flexed to reflect them.
Job Responsibilities:
Work with the schools to implement Speak Up!, Pen Pals and Reading Buddy project to encourage referrals of children with low reading skills from teachers and school personnel. Recruit and place senior volunteers as tutors, mentors, staff support, visitors and general support of community volunteer projects. Maintain frequent contact with volunteers and volunteer sites. Maintain accurate records and collect and input data on program operations and volunteer hours. Attend required training and staff meetings. Promote public awareness of RSVP and various volunteer opportunities. Ensure that all volunteers find their activities to be rewarding and challenging; provide opportunities for feedback from volunteers and assist in providing ongoing recognition activities. Arranges for volunteer stations to provide needed volunteer orientation and training. Prepare a portion of the monthly volunteer newsletter. Staff the RSVP office and assist in maintaining office equipment and supplies. Assist with multiple office duties as directed by the RSVP director. Assist with all fundraising activities and events. General cleaning. Performing other duties delegated by the RSVP director.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Ability to work well with teachers, activities coordinators, the elderly and volunteers. Ability to assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise good judgment. Enthusiasm in performance of assigned duties and responsibilities. Ability to speak to community service organizations, city government bodies, and public agencies in an effort to raise awareness of the project. Possess leadership and communication skill. Valid driver's license and transportation. Basic knowledge of office procedures. Computer proficiency. Including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook Ability to lift 25 lbs.
