Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
Answers 24-hour crisis hotline and handles domestic violence crisis and referral calls and transfers sexual assault crisis calls to Rape Crisis Services. Admits new residents, provides crisis intervention and helps facilitates the smooth operation of The Survivor Empowerment Center Shelter during the work hours. Must complete 40 hour Domestic Violence Training. This position is Saturday and Sunday, 9 am - 4 pm.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1.Handles in-coming calls to Survivor Empowerment Center, including referrals, domestic violence crisis calls, and is responsible for transferring all sexual assault crisis calls to the Rape Crisis Services according to procedures and documenting all calls appropriately. 2.Determines eligibility and admits walk-in clients. 3.Conducts needed Shelter Program crisis intervention, in-person or by phone, during work hours. 4.Documents all direct contacts with clients and processes forms accurately. 5.Monitors general happenings within the Shelter including alerting staff and desk workers to current problems, situations, and concerns as well as keeping the census log and communication book up-to-date. Also, notifies the appropriate staff when a client arrives for an appointment. 6.Enforces shelter rules and ensures things are running smoothly within the Shelter during shift. 7.May complete physical maintenance of the facility during work hours. 8.Organizes desk area and makes sure supplies are available. 9.On-call availability 10.Receives donations and follows appropriate procedures for documenting and distributing them. 11.Performs other related duties as assigned by management Requirements High school diploma or equivalent with preferably two (2) or more years of college in a human service field Previous volunteer work or experience in social service preferred Knowledge of sexual assault/domestic violence issues and previous training on those issues preferred Strong people and organizational skills with the ability to set priorities and give attention to detail Ability to communicate orally in conversation both in person and by telephone Ability to work well with people from a variety of racial, ethnic, socioeconomic, sexual orientation, and age groups, and with individuals who are differently-disabled Ability to deal with stress-related situations Ability to interact with others and remain focused while dealing with multiple objectives and timelines Ability to maintain confidentiality Ability to work in a team setting and embrace the concept of teamwork A demonstrated commitment to women and non-violence through previous volunteer work or employment preferredSimilar jobs in Carbondale, IL
