JOB SUMMARY
Go to work surrounded by beautiful nature and rich history! The Grove National Historic Landmark is seeking a Volunteer Coordinator to oversee our robust volunteer program, including recruitment, scheduling, record keeping, recognition and evaluation. This position helps to match volunteers with appropriate opportunities at both The Grove and Air Station Prairie. The Grove is 155 acres of ecologically diverse prairie grove land preserved and maintained by the Glenview Park District. The Grove was the home of visionary horticulturist and educator, Dr. John Kennicott and his son, Robert Kennicott, Illinois's first naturalist. The Grove was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1976 and offers educational programs, special events and is open for regular visitation by the general public. Air Station Prairie is a 32-acre tallgrass prairie with a LEED-certified "green" educational facility.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruits volunteers for programs, retail store, animal care, restoration, special events and other areas of operations. Assists staff in developing and coordinating projects for community service groups, scout troops, and business organizations as requested. Assists in the development of and conducts new volunteer orientation, general training, scheduling and evaluations. Assists in designing promotional pieces for volunteer opportunities. Assists in the development and implementation of volunteer recognition and professional development programs. Develops and initiates regular communication with volunteers through newsletters, meetings and other means. Assist front desk staff with greeting visitors and answering phones as necessary. Coordinates the collection and processing of volunteer paperwork and maintains volunteer database. Assists in developing and monitoring a budget.
QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma or equivalent required; College degree strongly preferred. Prior recruitment, staffing and supervisory experience required. Prior experience coordinating a volunteer labor force desirable. Experience working at a non-profit or community-based organization preferred. Must have exceptional customer service skills and the ability to organize and accurately manage a large amount of information.
SCHEDULING & PAY
Scheduling for this position is flexible, with approximately 20-30 hours per week. Some evenings and weekends are required for special events. The target hiring range is $18•$23/hour, depending on qualifications.
