Job Description

Botanica, The Wichita Gardens, is a botanical garden located in the Riverside neighborhood of Wichita, KS. Botanica opened in 1987 and hosts thousands of guests each year. Winner of multiple national and regional awards, Botanica is known for its robust plant collections, outdoor sculptures, annual tulip display, and holiday light show. The volunteer core work in a variety of capacities across the gardens and are instrumental members of the Botanica Team. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position. Benefits include health and dental insurance, paid holidays, and accrual-based paid time off. This position is expected to attend all major events.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK
This position provides daily coordination and operational support for Botanica's volunteer and internship programs and reports directly to the Director of People and Culture. The Coordinator plays a critical role in supporting Botanica's broader People & Culture priorities, including employee engagement, volunteer experience, organizational culture, training, recruitment support, recognition programs, internships, and workforce development. Serving as the primary point of contact for more than 1,000 volunteers, this role ensures a welcoming, organized, and responsive experience for volunteers, interns, staff, and community partners. This position operates with a high level of independence while working closely with the Director of People and Culture and department leaders to identify needs, coordinate assignments, and ensure volunteers are effectively integrated into daily operations and special events.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Volunteer & Internship Coordination Recruit, schedule, and coordinate volunteers and interns across all departments Serve as the primary point of contact, providing daily communication, troubleshooting, and support Coordinate onboarding, orientation, training, and placement Maintain accurate records, service hours, and databases (Volgistics or similar systems) Create and distribute volunteer communications, including newsletters and opportunity postings Department Partnership & Accountability Actively partner with department staff to identify, define, and document volunteer needs Ensure all volunteer opportunities include date, start time, end time, and clear description of duties before being shared Communicate opportunities to volunteers and fill needs in a timely manner Follow up with departments to confirm participation, expectations, and oversight Help build a culture where departments proactively submit volunteer needs and remain engaged in supervision and success Hospitality, Recognition & Experience Support volunteer and staff appreciation efforts, including events, recognition programs, and daily engagement Assist with or coordinate hospitality elements such as preparing coffee, tea, snacks, and catering for meetings, events, and volunteer gatherings Create a welcoming and hospitable environment that reflects Botanica's culture of appreciation Coordinate volunteer recognition initiatives and assist with appreciation events Recruitment & Outreach Support volunteer and intern recruitment through community outreach, partnerships, and engagement Make phone calls and direct outreach to fill volunteer shifts and build relationships Coordinate with schools, businesses, and community organizations Program Support & Engagement Maintain a visible, approachable presence to support volunteers and staff Monitor participation and address routine concerns; escalate as needed Capture photos and stories of volunteers and interns for marketing, recognition, and engagement efforts General Support Provide general customer service support to visitors Assist with events, programs, and other People & Culture initiatives as needed Perform other related duties as assigned
Pay:
$40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
