Job Description

Position Overview The Peer Support Specialist provides direct support to Veterans and service members by building relationships, offering mentorship, and helping individuals navigate barriers related to housing, employment, health, and access to benefits. This role is grounded in trust, empathy, and action, with a focus on connecting Veterans to appropriate internal teams and external community resources. Working throughout the assigned service area and local community, the Peer Support Specialist serves as a mentor, advocate, and resource for Veterans and service members adjusting to post-military life. This role supports individualized goal planning, community engagement, and coordination with internal teams to ensure Veterans receive consistent, effective support. This role requires balancing direct client engagement with timely, accurate documentation to support program needs and compliance expectations. This is a mission-driven position for someone who is passionate about serving Veterans and making a direct impact through outreach, relationship-building, and practical support. Key Responsibilities Outreach and Community Engagement Conduct outreach in local communities to identify and connect with Veterans and service members in need. Establish a presence at shelters, events, and service locations to build rapport and promote available resources. Build trust through shared experience and serve as a credible, accessible resource in the Veteran community. Peer Mentorship and Individualized Support Draw from lived experience to mentor Veterans through their transition, offering support and encouragement. Assist clients in creating and implementing individualized life plans focused on housing, employment, health, and stability. Provide guidance on navigating VA systems, community services, and available benefits. Resource Navigation and Advocacy Help Veterans access critical resources and advocate on their behalf as they move through complex systems. Coordinate with Case Managers and community partners to ensure seamless referrals and follow-up. Collaboration and Documentation Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent, coordinated support. Maintain clear and timely documentation of client interactions, goals, and referrals in accordance with program guidelines. Requirements Experience supporting Veterans, service members, or individuals navigating housing, VA benefits, recovery-oriented services, or other community-based support systems. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust and relate to others through empathy, respect, and shared experience. Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license are required. A Clear Path vehicle may be available on a limited basis, but employees should expect to rely on personal transportation for field-based work. This position includes regular in-person and field-based work throughout the assigned service area, generally within approximately 30 miles of the assigned office. Must be able to reliably report to the assigned office, travel throughout the assigned service area, and respond to urgent client or program needs within approximately 30-45 minutes when required. Ability to maintain clear and accurate documentation of client interactions, goals, referrals, and follow-up needs. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in field-based and community-based settings. Must pass a background check. Preferred Qualifications Military or Veteran experience is not required but is strongly valued. Passion for serving Veterans and helping remove barriers to housing and stability. Strong analytical and communication skills. Ability to remain flexible and adapt to changing environments. Compensation The salary range for this position is $45,000-$48,000 annually. The final offer will be based on experience, qualifications, and alignment with program funding.
