No Position Overview The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), Children, Youth and Family Services - OESS Division, is seeking experienced Human Services Specialist V professionals to support service delivery operations. These roles will function as frontline providers, conducting intake, triage, and eligibility support for a wide range of public assistance programs. This position plays a critical role in ensuring continuity of services and supporting daily operations within regional offices. Key Responsibilities Serve as the first point of contact and perform intake/triage for HHS programs and related services Assess client needs and ensure completion of appropriate program applications Explain eligibility criteria and program requirements to clients Receive, review, and distribute applications for public assistance programs, including: Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) Temporary Disability Assistance Program (TDAP) Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP/Food Stamps) Medical Assistance Rental Assistance Child Care Subsidies Maryland Energy Assistance Program Pharmacy Assistance Maryland Children's Health Program (MCHP) Emergency Assistance (evictions, utility cut-offs) Provide guidance and referrals to additional services as appropriate Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Experience in human services, case work, or a customer service environment Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to assess client needs and provide appropriate guidance Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment Preferred Qualifications Experience working in public assistance or social service programs Familiarity with DHHS programs and eligibility processes Experience with case management or client intake systems Work Environment Office-based position within a high-volume service center Frequent interaction with clients via phone and/or in person Prolonged periods of sitting and computer use The Benefits of Working for ATHENASupportive Team Environment A professional and dedicated team committed to making your work and life better.
