Job Description
Position Summary The EdGE Primary Youth Development Coordinator helps deliver Mission Downeast initiatives that leverage education, leadership, experiential, outdoor activities, and mentoring-based programs to build youth engagement, aspirations, and resilience. This position supports EdGE afterschool and summer camp programming with a focus on students in kindergarten through 8 grade. This position is responsible for managing staff, planning, and overseeing the EdGE afterschool site and summer camp in Machias. Responsibilities Program Planning & Delivery Plan, deliver, and lead developmentally-appropriate activities for kindergarten through 8th grade students and their families within EdGE programs Implement activities that support overall educational program goals Collaborate with other departments, programs, and partner organizations to design and deliver high‑quality EdGE activities Work as part of the EdGE team to design and facilitate the Marion Kane Leadership Program Oversee programming at afterschool partner sites during the school year and at summer camp to ensure high-quality, consistent experiences for participants Youth & Family Engagement Provide a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all youth and families Serve as a positive role model and mentor for students and staff, modeling appropriate behaviors at all times Maintain comfortable, effective communication with parents, staff, co‑workers, and community partners Connect families with other Downeast Campus programs and resources as appropriate Staff Supervision & Site Management Supervise, train, support, and mentor part‑time afterschool program staff Oversee site-specific administrative functions including staff scheduling, approving timesheets, PTO and time-change requests, and submitting weekly reports Ensure adherence to safety procedures, including oversight of medication administration, incident reporting, and other required documentation Maintain accurate attendance records and participant information using CampBrain Data, Evaluation, & Reporting Collect and record attendance, program activity data, and other relevant information Support program evaluation efforts by assisting with evaluation tools and ensuring accurate data collection Submit weekly photos to the Mission's Marketing Department to support organizational storytelling and outreach Safety, Compliance, & Professional Conduct Ensure all activities are conducted in alignment with the highest safety standards, using sound judgement to maintain a safe, positive environment for youth, families, and staff Attend required meetings as assigned by the supervisor Perform other related duties as assigned As Part of Maine Seacoast Mission Promote and embody the Mission as a welcoming and inclusive organization, where all people are valued and respected Support the values and purpose of the Maine Seacoast Mission as expressed in the mission statement and other guiding documents Uphold the reputation of the Mission and honor the trust built over generations between the Mission and the communities with which we work Qualifications Core Qualifications Knowledge of positive youth development, social-emotional learning, and/or mentoring-based methods and/or programs Previous experience working with young people and/or experience teaching or facilitating Excellent facilitation and communication skills Strong leadership qualities such as delegating tasks, active listening, ability to give and receive feedback Strong emotional regulation skills Comfort working in a fast-paced environment Ability to take the initiative and work independently, as well as cooperate with a team Ability to motivate students and colleagues, work as part of a team, and relate youth at various life stages, both in groups and individually Commitment to maintaining a positive and safe environment for students, participants, and fellow workers Desire to make a positive impact on youth and families' lives; be caring, compassionate, creative, and have a sense of humor Required Education and Experience High school degree with some college experience At least two years of experience supervising and mentoring staff Preferred Education and Experience Bachelor's degree preferred Lived experience that reflects the communities we serve Belaying experience and experience leading groups on ropes or challenge course Kayaking, hiking experience Lifeguard Certification helpful Special Qualifications and Certifications Ropes or challenge course training or experience or willingness to be trained Current CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain Position Conditions and Requirements Work Environment Working outdoors in various weather conditions Office environment for planning work School environment when running programming Physical Demands Physical ability and stamina for outdoor excursions during summer camp Ability to move up to 30 pounds Be comfortable belaying on a challenge course Ability to communicate verbally and visually to maintain safe conditions Travel Requirements Drive a 15-passenger van with individuals in the vehicle Clean driver's license Compensation This is a full-time, exempt position based on a 40-hour work week. The rate is $45,300.00 - $55,000.00 per year based on experience.
